Zack Kahn – “Let Me Tell Ya”

Zack Kahn discusses overcoming drug addiction in a “how it started vs. how it’s going” approach in “Let Me Tell Ya.” The beat takes admiration from boom-bap and socially conscious hip-hop.

He begins by giving listeners a background story about his upbringing. Then, Zack Kahn unveils the moment narcotics took over. 

He spits, “Good ol’ America, scaring us with the D.A.R.E. stuff/Still I found myself in the club surrounded by rare drugs/I embraced them like a bear hug.”

Afterward, he details a moment of revelation. He recalls when things became surreal, saying,

“Live without a care cause I ain’t know life would get real as shit/Momma up all night fucking crying while I would steal her whip/Fuckin’ delirious, asking the man in the mirror what year it is.”

Once Zack Kahn embarked on his road to recovery, he found solace in making music. As a result, he’s garnered a massive fanbase for his vulnerability and lyrical proficiency. 

He gives listeners an honest look at the aftermath of recovery.

In one excerpt, he says, “Feel like I’m underwater and the surface getting farther/Just tryna stay clean and get my green up just like a (Gardner)/A couple brews, then I fucking use. That’s my fucking noose/Then the blues, how but some grey goose? Chillin’ with my crew.”

Zack Kahn admits that his focus is solely on making music. He hopes to one day move the state. While he understands that this takes time to happen, Zack Kahn is willing to take the necessary steps. 

Amidst fighting this addiction, he had to be his own superhero. Unfortunately, there was no one at his beck and call. But, every day, he saves himself from being at the bottom of the barrel. Zack Kahn is becoming the best version of himself daily. That doesn’t necessarily mean he’s happy-go-lucky. But, every day, he puts his best foot forward. 

“Get to treatment and come out, Mr. Clean, shit I’m glistening/Now they listening. Yeah, they like it when your life is hard/Shit, I guess that’s how I write these bars,” he raps. 

In another line, he says, “My life goes up in smoke, and all I can do is joke/But it’s all a mask, I am so fucked up it makes me choke/You think you want to live this life? Well dog you really don’t.” 

“Let Me Tell Ya” is the lead single off his upcoming project Don’t Talk Just Listen. The 11-track LP drops on January 3rd, 2021, his six-month anniversary of being sober.
