STATIK G EXCLUSIVE

Statik G is an American musician as well as an entrepreneur who has over the years redefined himself as one of the most ingenious and strong-willed people of the music industry.

We love your new fire music! How did you come up with the concept for the song Coming Home?

Thanks! I appreciate that. Most of my music comes from life experience for better or worse, and this song is no different. This song is about being far from home, your love, and finally going back to them. Whether it’s from being on tour, in jail, a break up, business trip or whatever. Since it’s me, maybe a little mix of all that, ha. It’s just coming home to a love that no distance or time can break.

What is your favorite part about the song?
So for me it’s the whole vibe with the song. I have been drawn to this punk rock pop vibe lately especially because I just started dating again recently. So I’m feeling all these emotions and I just love how it spilled into this song. It felt like I just dumped buckets of different colored paint onto a canvas and ended up with a Van Gough, haha. To be specific, I love the arrangement from verse to chorus and how it mixes the instrumental and the vocals so fluidly. It’s a vibe.

What were you most meticulous about on your latest song?
To be honest, I love the hook. It’s the first time I’ve done anything like it with the layers and the highs. I just went into the booth and let loose on the microphone! My new engineer is incredible!! It felt like a movie recording and every time I listened to it, the raw emotion I felt writing it was captured perfectly in the song.

Your latest collaboration, how did this come about?
My latest collaborations celebrity wise were Bezz Believe, Rittz, Doobie, Bizarre, Stevie Stone and Big Henri. Bezz was a single and the rest were features for my last album.
My current collaboration is on Empathy EP with a producer named Efreezee. He is making all the music while I’m writing all the lyrics and performing the vocals. Coming Home is a product of our collaborative efforts!

Who did what on the song?
On the celeb features we all performed our own verse for the respective songs. For the music I’m making with Efreezee, he makes the music. I write the songs and perform them in the studio and at live shows. Between production, performance and engineering we use a mixture of physical and digital-based instruments to craft a song.

What was the writing process like?
Same as always! Feel the energy, breathe it in, and breathe out music.

What kind of mood was set in order to create the magic?
I lit some candles and slipped into something nice. Nah, I’m kidding around but I would! I’ll write music on top of a mountain, in a shower, driving a car, working, stuck in a cell, smoking MMJ, it doesn’t matter to me. I just need a pair of headphones and I can get lost in the music anywhere. I’ve even written lyrics in my dreams and wrote them down in real life.

Is there a critique you’ve gotten on the single that you worked through and it’s made the overall work better?
My engineer is very technical so I was scared to perform this song in the studio. Took me a month of preparation and fasting from weed and toxins to shake the resin from my vocals. We both get frustrated if you don’t hit the notes so I knew I had to focus my energies for this one. Fortunately he gave me a pretty strong compliment on the delivery but any time I get stuck on how to pull it out or where I’m going with a song, he’ll offer advice. Andrew will literally slide to a piano and mess with keys until he finds something that may sound cool. He did that for Coming Home too and made sure I didn’t go too far with the layering!

What are you most excited about for fans to hear on your latest single?
My growth and artistic development. I’ve never had anybody telling me what sounds good or looks right on me so I’ve been a self made business and artist since conception! That said I’m really proud of how I’ve been able to grow into this sound but stay true to myself. Most of us artists struggle with evolution here and there but this feels so natural. I’m excited to hear what they think!

What has been the best feedback so far?
“Everybody I show the music to loves it”

Leave us with your favorite fire lyrics of the song?
“Hold you down like my song, like I promised I would.”
