Mali Angels – “Wishlist”

Making moves behind the scenes guarantees more success. At least, that’s what’s exemplified in Mali Angels’ “Wishlist.”

Led by a dark, flute-led drill beat, the Crown Heights native uses a steady flow to rap about his skepticism toward others whose character will eventually get revealedIn the beginning, Mali Angels raps about his determination to succeed. He then unveils why he’s on guard regarding trusting specific individuals.

Being fully transparent about getting over the hump in his younger years, Mali Angels spits

“Never trust em I know they gonna squeal /They character getting revealed /Deal with trauma just know that it’s real/Certain nights couldn’t eat me a meal/Had a heart, but they tore me apart /Born a star know I’m making it far /With the iron I’m feeling like stark.”

Next, the “Wishlist” hitmaker cautions outsiders that being fake toward him will be their biggest regret. Detailing his retaliation method, he raps

Play with me know you testing your luck/When it’s up know i don’t give a fuck/Closer Badge imma shoot in the clutch/In the towns know that sitchi is tucked.”

From there, Mali Angels cautions others to be mindful of the company they keep around. In other words, he raps “you gotta beware of the streets.”

Iterating that he’s far from mindless, Mali spits

Fool me once know you crossing the line/Fool me twice started seeing the signs/Run it back know they pressing rewind/Real and fake know they don’t intertwine.”

Contrary to his reservations, Mali Angel has a close group of friends who live by loyalty. Because of this, the rapper promises to do the same.

Me and gang on the race to the charts/In the game know I’m making my mark,” he spits.

He then circles back to telling listeners to stay on their P’s and Q’s. “Do your thing and just know they gonna watch,” he raps. “Watch my back know they itching to plot.”

Also, he raps

“Say the loyal it’s all a disguise/In the Stu got me feeling alive/Low on trust, no one there on my side.”

In “Wishlist,” he concludes that keeping a laser focus will get you ahead of the game.

Lines like these bring the narrative home,

Since a youngin I stayed in my lane/Played it smart, learned the rules to the game/Paint a picture lets put it in frames/Cooking up never playing no games.”
