‘Let Go, Let Odd’: Odd The Artist Drops A Masterpiece For Her Debut Album

I just got the chance to dive into the debut album “Let Go, Let Odd” by New Orleans creative Odd The Artist. Not only am I genuinely impressed by her musicality and talent; what stood out the most to me was the thematic unity and consistency throughout the album. The cohesion really blew my mind. I don’t know if I’ve ever heard such well-placed skits and cameos throughout a debut project. Odd makes her reflective journey easy to follow while keeping the listener guessing with fresh beat selection and vocal diversity. Song titles like “Start Over”, “Suffocate”, “Running”, and “Escape” encapsulate Odd’s intentions of acknowledging her own flaws as she walks us through her journey to overcome these personal challenges.

From the first track, “Let Go,” it’s clear that Odd The Artist has poured her soul into this project. The song sets a powerful emotional tone that really showcases her unique vocal style and lyrical depth. She starts the track with a prayer, then we’re off and running.

“God, grant me the serenity to stop beating myself up for not doing things so perfectly…the courage to forgive myself because I’m working on being a better me. And the wisdom to know that you love me just the way I am.”

Each track on the album feels like a peek into her personal diary, addressing deep emotions and experiences that many of us can relate to. Odd The Artist beautifully articulates struggles with growth, love, breakups, loneliness, depression, avoidance and more.  Another aspect that must be mentioned is the authenticity and rawness in her music, especially in songs like “PBNJ” and “Start Over,” where she collaborates with other artists to add even more flavor and perspective (shoutout to DJ PJ and P3RK).

Without knowing Odd The Artist personally, her music tells the story of someone who is fearless and edgy with a soft side. Over the calming chords of the track “Blues Clues” she recites “It’s not easy, I have feelings, but in the end I’m a thug”.  After all, we are human and it’s all about balance. Odd maintains this balance throughout the project; with soulful, alternative, and Hip-Hop influences woven in every song. You won’t be able to tell if her influences are Noname, Lauryn Hill, Jill Scott, or Willow Smith. While these comparisons are broad, her versatility is something you must listen to for yourself to understand! Odd The Artist brings witty lyricism, rich R&B vocals, and a bit of an alternative flare on songs like “Cougar” feat. TreBilly.

The production quality is top-notch, perfectly blending classic Hip-Hop and soul influences with contemporary sounds that make the album a great listen for long-time soul lovers, rap fanatics, modern R&B, and alternative fans. One of my favorite tracks is “RUNNING” (Prod. LEVERNE) which interpolates the recognizable Pharcyde hit. This project is a rich, layered production that complements her strong vocal performances throughout the album.

Overall, “Let Go, Let Odd” is a powerful statement from Odd The Artist. It’s not just an album, but a narrative arc that takes you through her journey of letting go and stepping into her own. It’s clear she’s not only talented but has a deep passion for music that really shines in this body of work. Odd The Artist will gain new fans that love her for her lyricism or R&B prowess. While the versatility is appreciated, future fans may suggest a more genre focused album based on their own personal preferences. But right now, I think we need to admire all that Odd is bringing to the table. I’m excited to see where her music will take her next. New Fire Music will be tuned in!
