Love Me by Jamez Vinay is a beautiful twist of 2000s R&B and modern trap soul. Vinay vibes on the beat similar to some of our favorite alternative R&B artists (DVSN, PartyNextDoor, Bryson Tiller, Brent Faiyaz, and more). His vocals are unique but also under control. Behind the well thought out melodies and great vocals is an interesting love story, right on brand with the track’s Valentine’s Day release. His rap cadence is just as controlled as his vocals, so we quickly get the sense the Jamez Vinay knows what he’s doing. You won’t be able to truly tell if Jamez Vinay is a singer or a rapper, versatility personified.

Jamez Vinay adds a reggae twist to one of our favorite samples on One Time. JV samples ‘Gotta Get You Home’, made popular by both Foxy Brown and Eugene Wilde. One Time is a feel good song that will make you dance. Vinay was effortlessly able to set the vibe, making a great addition to your afrobeat playlist.

From The Artist

The sample used on One Time is very recognizable. What made you pick that particular beat?

I pick that particular sample because I was going for a reggae inspired sound. And I wanted something that people can dance and vibe too. I love giving my fans new sounds to hear from me. Every time they listen to my music, they can expect something new.

Some time has passed between the releases of “One Time” and “Love Me”. How would you describe your growth as an artist in that time?

I put them out at different times but I made them in the same month ha! But I believe my growth from my first EP BLDN 5 was astronomical. Based off my old work, I became a better singer and writer big time. I believe I finally found my sound sonically. And what I look for in a song. But there’s always something to improve on and I’m still learning new things.

How would you describe your sound to a new listener?

That’s a good question! I like a variety of sounds. so that’s hard to say because I’ve recently done just about all of the sound genres. I like being able to hop around genres and create new sounds for people. I’ve released a reggae inspired track, Reggaeton inspired track, a pop track, I also have a song called “My Time” coming soon which is an all rap track (something new because I’m not a rapper.) I one day want to make a country pop song or EDM song. But RNB will always be home for me.

How has the pandemic impacted/affected your creativity?

The pandemic actually helped me a lot I was able to be more creative because I’ve been isolated from everything and everyone. I got everything I wanted to get done with my music. And I think that I need that isolation. To get all my work done. During the pandemic I was able to finish my upcoming Ep.

What can fans and new listeners expect from James Vinay for the rest of 2021?

I do have a new visual coming out for my upcoming single My Time. I also have a new EP coming out soon; called “V”. I plan to use the rest of the year working with other artists and working my way into the mainstream era. I feel like this is gonna be a big year for me. so many great ideas, collaborations, and surprises this year and I’m very excited. I can’t wait for everyone to see what I got.

Which artists, both past and present, are you influenced by?

The artist I would like to say that have influenced me for sound would be Brent Faiyaz/Sonder, Summer Walker, Drake, and SZA. Creativity wise I really look up to Kanye West when it come to creative thinking.

Can fans expect more visuals from you this year? If so, for which songs?

I have an upcoming visual coming called “My Time” that I’m really excited about. I believe that it’s one of my best works of art.

What are some of your goals for this year?

My goals for this year is to get my music to a wider audience, and to work with a few mainstream artists. My goal this year is really focusing on getting my name out there as much I can.

What makes you different from other up and coming artists?

I’m always doing something different in terms of genres and sounds. And I pay extra attention to my live performances as far as props, lights, my stage fits and choreography. I want to show people and give my audience the best of me every single time without them getting bored of the same sound or same type of visuals. I’m a full on entertainer.
