Chase Murphy sets the tone for his latest project with lead single “No Peakin”.

Chase Murphy from Boston, Massachusetts has already seen a lot of success in his young career. He has a song with over one million streams, he’s performed overseas in countries like Iceland, and has firmly solidified himself as an emerging artist in the east coast music scene. The best part is that he’s only 23. If you don’t know his name, it’s your own fault (sorry). But we forgive you! Keep reading to find out more about the budding star out of Massachusetts.

Chase Murphy is a rapper’s rapper. He prioritizes lyrics, unique flows, unforgettable punchlines, and infectious melodies. He relies on his understanding of music and cadence rather than vocal effects. Chase built his audience the hard way; never missing an opportunity to perform locally or a chance to shoutout his city. Luckily, Boston returned the love tenfold. It doesn’t take long to find videos online of Murphy killing shows with fans singing every word. His presence and star power is huge, but he chooses to remain humble. Chase knows that the success he’s seen thus far is just the tip of the iceberg for what’s to come.

“Tip Of the Iceberg” by Chase Murphy Out Now!

On January 18th, the emerging artist out of Boston released his latest project on the 15th anniversary of his mother’s tragic passing. While our condolences are definitely with Chase, it seems like each one of the fifteen years that passed have made Murphy that much more resilient and intentional with his approach to music. He describes this project as “a new beginning” for a new stage of enlightenment. He found ways to articulate his deepest thoughts that include feelings of frustration and extreme pessimism. Today, he see’s the glass “half full” as he approaches every decision with the utmost confidence. The six song project features stories of Chase Murphy’s life experiences over carefully chosen instrumentals. His style of music may remind you of Joey Badass, Mac Miller or Russ, but Chase remains in a league of his own finding slick ways to tell his story.

The lead single on Tip of the Iceberg titled “No Peakin” features Chicago legend Mick Jenkins. The song talks about the uncertainty of our lives and not really knowing what’s coming next. That being so, Chase Murphy doesn’t worry because he knows he’s putting in the work to end up where he wants to be. His choice to be optimistic comes from the confidence in his work ethic. Therefore, there’s no need to peak in to the future. Chase can enjoy the moment and let things unfold. Both artists compliment the mid tempo beat well and the inspiring single is full of thought provoking bars. Chase Murphy shows off his vocals, reciting the chorus that challenges the listener to focus on their own journey because nothing comes easy. What does this song mean to you?

Chase Murphy: “No Peakin” represents my unwavering optimism and belief that I’ll only get better with time. Of course, that mindset is undeserved without a work ethic to match. I thought Mick had an interesting perspective to add. Being that he’s further along in his life and career, his verse was more reflective on his journey thus far than what remains ahead.

What lyrics will fans relate to the most?

Chase Murphy: I think the lyric fans will relate to the most is “ain’t no journey come easy, I’mma focus on mine”. Nobody’s life is perfect. We all experience our share of highs and lows, and have dreams that deserve to be chased. I think it’s important to remind ourselves that the cards we’ve been dealt don’t determine the rest of our story; that’s for us to decide.

How did you know Mick Jenkins was the perfect feature?

Chase Murphy: Mick is someone I’ve wanted to work with for a long time. As a writer, he’s always had my utmost respect, and was a fitting addition to a project as lyrical as “Tip of the Iceberg”. With such dark production on “No Peakin”, and a baritone approach to my own verse, I felt the stage was perfectly set for his appearance.

Who are your greatest musical influences all time?

Chase Murphy: There are countless musicians I could credit, but my biggest musical influence has always been my sister. She has such a diverse palate, and everything she listened to trickled down to me as a kid. As I developed my own taste I primarily listened to rap, but think that those early, out-of-the-box influences is what makes my music stand out as a Hip-Hop artist now.

What makes Chase Murphy different from other artists?

Chase Murphy: I think my story sets me apart from other artists. Not just it’s substance, but my willingness to tell it. As a person, I’m never one to hold my tongue, and I like to approach my music with the same level of honesty. The mic is my closest friend; and therefore that’s the kind of relationship I aim to have with my listeners.
