A Lani Brings Us In To Troy, New York On New Project “Pressure”

A Lani unpacks his personal issues to get you through yours.

Troy, New York, just a couple miles north of Albany, is somewhat of a forgotten city by most people’s standards. While many people love the diverse town in upstate New York that they call home, others complain of decade old problems like rampant drug use and crime. As a result, the over patrolled neighborhood is full of people simply trying to make a way.

On A Lani’s debut project titled “Pressure”, he struggles with trying to make something out of nothing in the controversial city of Troy. The title “Pressure” has so many meanings. For example, Lani talks about the pressure to make something of yourself with little motivation around you, the pressure to survive another day in a dangerous environment, and the pressure to keep believing in your dreams no matter what obstacles may be in front of you.

“Pressure” By A Lani Out Now!

In Summary, Pressure is introspective, self aware, and inspiring. In the intro single “Forgive Mi”, A Lani asks God to forgive him for the troubled road that he’s walked thus far. The New York artist wants positive change, and he knows it starts within. The rest of the seven track EP is full of affirmations for a better life including foreign cars, designer clothes, and boss moves.

Ultimately, the highlight of this entire project is A Lani’s song making ability. He balances melodies with raw lyricism over instrumentals that fit today’s hip-hop/trap climate perfectly. This being his debut project, it didn’t take A Lani a long time to find his voice. The confidence is apparent and the emerging artist says that a lot more music is on the way. The last track “My Citi” is an autobiographic review of A Lani’s life in Troy, dodging violence and possibly being around the wrong people. Lani’s storytelling ability shines and this track stands out as our favorite.

What does this project mean to you?

We got a chance to ask A Lani what this project meant to him. Check out his answer below.

A Lani: This project I keep close to my heart, as it is my first. I made it during a time I was struggling with the hope that one day things would turn around for me (and they did). Hope is something I want to give to the people where I’m from and anyone who can relate to a track like “my citi.” The timing was mainly based on the fact that I’ve become confident with my music and I’ve got a lot more on the way!
