2023 WITH TREVOR JAMES

Trevor James is a multi-instrumentalist singer/songwriter from the Pocono Mountains of northeastern Pennsylvania.

Trevor’s love for music arose from his time playing in high school bands with friends (initially with the sole intent of trying to impress the ladies), though he soon found himself feeling a genuine passion for writing, recording, and performing music. Upon graduating, Trevor put music on the backburner to focus on college studies. However, in 2019, Trevor rediscovered his love for music after trying his hand at solo acoustic style music. Starting initially with cover videos, the success of Trevor’s talents saw him quickly amass an impressive social media following, which inspired him to have a go at writing his own material.

Trevor’s first EP “Breakthrough” was recorded entirely in his makeshift bedroom studio and was released in late-2020. One track from that EP (“Rendezvous”) then went on to feature on local radio station 97.9x Rocks, as well as popular Philly station Alt 104.5, where Trevor was also interviewed and performed live in Spring of 2021.

Trevor released his much anticipated single “Again” in June 2022, followed by “Comfort” in August – both of which he got the opportunity to perform on the Wish USA Bus in Hollywood, CA that same month. Look out for more to come from Trevor later this year!

What has been the driving force of your career in this upcoming New Year?

The driving force of my career in this upcoming New Year has been my newfound perspective regarding personal success and goals; Instead of measuring success by comparing my own songs, experience, etc. to that of other artists, I’m looking internally at my own goals and benchmarks and measuring my success by how well I adhere to those. Although looking to other artists for inspiration is still beneficial and a hugely positive thing to do, in my opinion.

Are you planning to do anything BIG next year for your career?

Yes! In addition to releasing a 5-song EP in 2023 and promoting it accordingly, I plan to (finally) come out with merchandise and get back to focusing on live shows, performances, festivals, etc.

What adjustments have to be made in order to get to that goal?

The biggest adjustment I’ll have to make to hit my goals in 2023, I think, will be to channel the performer mindset again and focus heavily on the social aspect of being an artist. The past couple of years have largely been spent inside and writing/recording, which isn’t necessarily a bad thing, but in order to promote myself effectively and reach my goals I absolutely have to get back into performer mode again.

What personal goal have you set for yourself that you’d like others to think about too?

One personal goal I’ve set for myself in 2023 is to grow my fanbase – more specifically, eclipsing 10K subscribers on YouTube, 15K followers on IG, and 100K listeners on Spotify.

Making more moves in this New Year can be really exciting, is there anything that you are nervous about when it comes to your career? How do you get over those nerves and go for what YOU want?

I definitely get nervous! Any artistic or creative field takes a level of nerve because it involves putting yourself out there and sometimes baring your soul (not to sound too dramatic lol) to a group of people that may or may not like it or you. In fact it’s very likely that there will be some people who just won’t like you or your work.. but that comes with the territory. I push through the nerves by always keeping my main goal(s) in mind and not letting what people think affect me too deeply.

What chances are you taking in 2023 when it comes to collaboration?

The biggest chance I’m taking in 2023 when it comes to collaboration is my recent partnership with a new producer I’m working with to create and release my upcoming 5-song EP. I’m very proud of this batch of songs and want them to be as good as they possibly can be, but having never worked with this producer before there is definitely a level of inherent risk I’m taking on. I feel good about it, though

Name the word of the year for 2023? The word of the year for 2023 is “growth”

Setting intentions is so important especially when accomplishing your goals! How do you make sure to keep that heart and drive you have for yourself?

Thankfully I don’t think I’ve ever had trouble keeping the heart and drive I have for myself and my goals, and I think the biggest reason for this is because I’m very passionate about my music and music in general.. and when you’re truly passionate about something, heart and drive is never really a concern.

What is happening NEXT for you?

At a high level, what’s happening NEXT for me is to have a big 2023! As I mentioned, I’ll be releasing this 5-song EP in the first half of 2023, while placing a huge focus on playing & performing live way more frequently than I have these past couple of years. I’ll be promoting the songs to new audiences and potential fans anywhere I can – whether that means tours, festivals, smaller venues, or even open mics.. no opportunity is too small.
