Yamah and Jessi Idony‘s “intoxicated” comes off Yamah’s new EP I to I. The production for this project was entirely done by Yamah.
The artist says the song finds them “reminiscing on the vices they develop(ed) from toxic relationships.”
This single also contributes to the first three songs of I to I and completes the downward spiral of the relationship mentioned above.
At the beginning of “intoxicated,” Yamah asks listeners if they’ve “ever been so gone that you try to fight off the wave you riding?” From there, Yamah channels into the piano-driven trap offering, using it as a muse for his vulnerability. Yamah also delivers a prayer-styled verse highlighting his resilience during the worst of times, “Ashes to ashes we all fall/Red light I’m going against all odds/Stacked against me/It’s not my fault.“
Jessi Idony uses an angelic register to describe the nature of a once-fulfilling relationship. In her verse, Jessi Idony seeks to end things with her partner for good. Their bond seems to be described as an addiction.
“Intoxicated but I ain’t even pop a pill/How you got my vision blurry? Jessi Idony delivers. “Second hand but trauma still/I don’t wanna stick around you.”
From there, Yamah hops back on “intoxicated” with more hard-hitting bars. In a matter of minutes, he describes former late nights when he was looking for his vices, Because of this, a rift eventually formed in his former relationship.
“Lights side to side they checking on me/What were you thinking/I wasn’t my baby just text me/The time was a quarter to 3/Quarter for me.”
The rest of “intoxicated” highlights Yamah’s hunger to make it. The rapper also seemingly stands up for himself against the debby downers, saying, “Why you barking? Fall back/Don’t wanna play.” Yamah’s new song overall pinpoints the push-and-pull of giving into bad habits.
