People ask me daily “Yo Marv, who are you listening to right now?” and oddly enough that is one of the toughest questions I get asked! But one thing I can say is I am most certainly always listening to NEW FIRE MUSIC.
I’ve had a few friendly and not so friendly old school vs new school music arguments and folks tend to say that Today’s New Age music lacks substance.
But contrary to popular belief, I think there is amazing new talent buzzing around all over and the kids are in fact alright!
Take a peek into my day to day music selection compiled below. Enjoy!
Coming in at Top 3! Of course I had to start the list off with some Jersey talent!!!! One thing about it I will always put my State on first and I can truthfully say that I listen to Stormy, Mali, and NIKE every single day. I mean my Apple Music listener hours are usually pretty accurate, but check these artists out for yourself to see why!
Mali Smith – Wassup
Stormy Wicked – M0b T!3$ 🙂
NIKETHEARTIST – Lil Miss Run It Up
Chlöe – Body Do
This song gets me up and grooving. Shoutout to Chlöe Bailey, she is killing it on her “In Pieces Tour.” Catch her in a city near you!
Frosted Kae – Fasho ft. T Hood
I’ve been following Kae for some time now, she appears regularly on Love & Hip-Hop Atlanta in support of her Father and Step-mother Kirk and Rasheeda Frost. She mentioned that she did music on the show and I wanted to hear more. Come to find out this girl is a powerhouse and she’s making noise in the A! I’ve been obsessed with “Fasho,” since she posted it on her Instagram.
Eem Triplin – Just Friends?
I was introduced to Eem after hearing his song “If You Go,” on SoundCloud and of course I found more songs that I loved. He’s super dope. (ARTISTS PLEASE KEEP RELEASING YOUR MUSIC ON SOUNDCLOUD, IT IS A GREAT HUB FOR NEW MUSIC AND DISCOVERY).
Bahja Rodríguez – All Mine
I’ve always been a fan of Bahja since she was an OMG Girl! It’s amazing to see her still making incredible music and thriving as a solo artist. She will always be a star.
Ice Spice ft. Nicki Minaj – Princess Diana (Remix)
First of all, this track was a bop all by itself. But it was only fitting for the QUEEN OF RAP to hop on. Debate with your mother (and she’d agree with me!)
Cochise – Cook Up
Cochise has always been my guy and him having a Jamaican background like myself gives him even more cool points on my side. “Yo Cochise! Ah Weh Dem Ah Seh.”
Don Toliver – Honeymoon
[I’m being modest here, I really want to list the whole “Lovesick,” album! Don is literally my favorite artist, iykyk.]
Jmarz$ Ft. Young Wabo – Hello Kitty Yerc
I’m getting familiar with Jmarz$ & Young Wabo. Respectfully, Hello Kitty Yerc is the first song I’ve heard but now I’m tapped in and interested in both artists! I’m looking forward to hearing more.
