Heartbreak Kids is a song about the struggles of maintaining self when dating. VYBZ and Light Voyage address the fact that many of today’s relationships start with one or both lovers having an ego. Egos create unnecessary friction and demands that get in the way of experiencing the love. Both artists want listeners to value yourself before choosing to change for someone’s ego.
Although the subject matter of Heartbreak Kids isn’t all sunshine, the overall vibe of this song is perfect for a day outside. This single falls somewhere in the alternative and pop genre. Sonically, the instrumental tone is sharp. The simplicity of the instrumental lets your mind retain the lyrics and appreciate the feeling that the song brings. The vocal composition sets the tone for a turbulent story with relatable lyrics.
