Here is another Week of the MONTH of October 2022, we are presenting our Top Artists of the Week Series 8 for your entertainment and fun. There are lessons to learn from each other as you look and listen to one another’s tracks. The selections are simply our opinion. All artists are great and super professionals in their calling.

How we select top artists.

Indeed, there are many interesting things that my job involves listening to live concerts by solo artists and ensembles whom we might showcase on a weekly series.  You can learn a lot from watching their video or audio recording of course, but not everything.  In fact, the most important thing you can learn from these commercial or demo recordings is that a particular musician or ensemble is probably not destined for the priority list.

In recent weeks we have found ourselves with the opportunity to hear quite a few concerts, live bands, and recorded works from different artists.  It got us thinking about what criteria are we going to rank and prioritize each artist. We have narrowed it down to 3 areas: technique, interest (substance), and communication.

Technical ability is probably the least important, simply because there’s such a high level of proficiency among professional soloists and ensembles these days.  Indeed, it’s probably fair to say that if you ever get the impression at a concert that a piece of music is really difficult and pushing the performer(s) to their limit, then it’s probably more a reflection on the limitations of the artist than the technical problems of a piece of music.  Great performances usually transcend technical difficulties.

So, the more important question is whether a performance is interesting, meaning does it capture people’s attention, and unlocks their imagination? That comes down to choices a musician makes around musical colors and textures, variation, consistency of approach, creating tension, the overall shape of a piece, tastefulness, and context.  Much of this is subjective, which is why it’s okay, indeed healthy, for people to disagree after a video, or live stage watch – whether they liked it or not.

Thirdly, there’s the issue of communication. Unlike a recording, an artist or ensemble on stage with a live audience has to acknowledge the audience is there and perform for them. Singers maybe have the advantage of words to articulate, but instrumental music is a language too, and the live concert experience is about communicating.

The most memorable concerts we have attended are those at which that communication has been strong and convincing. There are many, many musicians and ensembles across the world who deliver at the highest level.  Our lives are more enriched by having exposure to them.

Higgnz – The Deep State

Higgnz is a Hip Hop Artist/Rapper from the bayous Southeastern Louisiana. His unique style and content put him in his own subgenre that can only be explained by the listener.

American Renaissance will be his fourth official album release. You can find Higgnz music on all major streaming platforms. You can also follow Higgnz on YouTube, Facebook, Tik Tok, Rumble, Instagram, and Twitter.

“The Deep State” was released on July 15, 2022, by American Hip Hop Artist, Higgnz. The single is the third for the upcoming album, American Renaissance, set for release on October 28, 2022. You can find the single, “The Deep State”, on all major streaming platforms (Spotify, Apple Music, Google Play, Amazon Music, etc.)

Anyone who has paid attention to the news in the recent past and present may have heard the term, “The Deep State”. The song was written in 1st person and details the accounts and major events throughout history that members of, “The Deep State”, have influenced. Whether one believes or does not believe that a “black hat” organization exists within factions of all governments, the lyrics of this song educate the listener as well as any journalist that dares to talk about the subject can provide.

 

Bradyy – Off My Mind

Bradyy is an artist and upcoming, sixteen-year-old out of Milwaukee, Wisconsin has released a brand new 7 songs project. Some of his best work is featured on this album, and all it takes is one listen to understand.

This project talks about personal problems, insecurities, and love across many of the tracks. The songs are “Over This”, “Loyalty”, “11:11”, “The Bottle”, “Late Nights With You”, “Off My Mind”, and “Ain’t Been Alright”.

The “Off My Mind” talks about how he cannot get his ex-girlfriend out of his mind. No matter how hard he tries, he is unable to remove those thoughts. Being with other girls can’t even make the pain go away, and that is truly the biggest message in this song.

Chris Evans, professionally known as CHRVNS based in the USA, is a visionary musical entrepreneur, music producer, event host, and performer. Though originally born in Germany and primarily raised in Georgia, USA, CHRVNS has been taking the Northwest by storm since living in Bellingham, WA.

He is best known for his highly energetic music and engaging stage presence. His music explores a variety of emotions and genres, ranging from rap, hip-hop, R&B, and dance-pop. CHRVNS has been seen in many stages and events. From local music festivals like Shabang and BAMF to opening for artists such as Murs, Trinidad James, Dizzy Wright, The Comet is Coming, and B.O.B.

 

Carina Barrios – Nervous

Carina Barrios is a 25-year-old Pop / R&B singer, songwriter, and all-around performer based in the USA. Her love for music was instant from the moment she was able to walk and talk.

While in the New York City and New Jersey area she is continuing to rise and make an impact. With her soulful sound and upbeat melodies, she is ready to take over the music industry. With talents ranging from singing, dancing, acting, and modeling, Carina is a quadruple threat and ready to take over with the release of her first official single “Nervous”.

 

Georgia Parker – Fuck it, He Makes Me Nervous

Georgia Parker is an artist based in the USA.  Georgia Parker is really a Songwriter and storyteller from Kent, England. Georgia Parker places an emphasis on powerful vocal performances and poignant lyricism to draw out an emotive response from her listener.

She began writing at the early age of 13 and has been performing around the US since moving to the States at 18. Her unique tone and emotive delivery have proved to set her apart as an artist, akin to legends such as Joni Mitchell and Alanis Morrisette. Inspired by Folk and Indie influences such as Adrienne Lenker, Jeff Buckley, and Phoebe Bridgers.

Georgia released her third EP, “I Think I Know” in 2021 which has surpassed over 150,000 streams. “Did You Get the Feeling?” her most recent single, was released in early June and has already proved to raise the bar of originality and lyricism that we can expect from the artist.

While artists using their own trauma and experiences as inspiration is not a new concept, Georgia’s narrative-style lyrics though simple are profound and exemplified by her voice which is rich in vulnerability, separating her from her peers. Ironically, her commonality is what makes her so unique, it allows her to forge meaningful bonds with listeners who can easily relate to her music. She’s excited to continue releasing music that is reflective of her life and experiences and sharing it with others!

On Thursday, October 20, 2022 (New York, NY)- Georgia Parker, English-bred and current LA resident found comfort in turning personal anecdotes from her life into cathartic lyrics. She found success after being featured in Spotify’s “stories” where she covered Alanis Morrisette’s, one of her greatest influences, famous track “Hand In My Pocket”.

Georgia Parker’s upcoming single, “Fuck it, He Makes Me Nervous” is another example of her ability to capture feelings and experiences in a way that easily relates to so many people. “Fuck it, He Makes Me Nervous” blends several genres together– mixing electric sounds reminiscent of the 90s with acoustic guitar and banjo interjections giving it an Americana vibe that reflects the emotions she describes in the lyrics.

Georgia Parker wrote her upcoming single after experiencing bouts of nervousness every time she was alone with a coworker. She began to envy his interactions with another employee who somehow managed to play it so cool while simultaneously flirting with him.

“The song bounces between styles– beginning as sort of a glitchy pop tune, before moving into a more indie rock chorus. The second verse has a sillier, country, Americana injection– acoustic guitar, banjo. n.e.r.d. life by D’Vo is a Virtual Neo Soul and Hip-Hop artist from Houston, TX and the Owner of the label, Element 11. He has released a Hip Hop series called The Codex that will be an extension of eleven albums.

n.e.r.d. life by D’Vo is a different breed of artistry as he remains anonymous while giving listeners a unique blending of hip-hop with down south soul, jazz, rap with modulated voices, and chopped & screwed. His music catches the attention of young listeners who are intrigued by his deep faith and vocal effects.

His futuristic sound has earned him four top-charting songs, two of which received plaques, Swagger from My Father and Elevated Thinking. D’Vo has also been featured on music blogs like The Source and Its Bizkit. His music influences growing up were Tupac and Maxwell, two very different artists that have given birth to and inspiration to D’Vo‘s production and experimental sound.

“Dark Matters” is a song told in the first-person perspective about someone dealing with mental health and self-harm. It’s written for someone he knows so it is personal to him as he’s sure we all know someone struggling to be free in their mind.

The guitar really adds emotion to the track and is played by Master Pe, a Sao Paulo, Brazilian artist. He uses 3D animation and art to connect with his listeners.

Tulio created this album and is his first-ever release. Tulio wanted to make it fun but haunting. A love that sucks you dry all that can fix your pain is that person or a bottle of something strong.
