We love your new fire music! How did you come up with the concept for the song?
I wrote, “Bad Bicthes Like Me” with a friend of mine Megan Linville. So much of it was just born out of frustration. I’ve been told, as many women have, my whole life how and who to be. We get told what type of wife, mother, friend, boss, and in my case artist we should be. Women artists get told what we should sound and look like and how we’re supposed to react. And if we do it wrong we’re labeled a bitch. I just thought I don’t really care what you call me “Old Bitch, New Bitch, Young Bitch Rude Bitch” I’ll just be myself. Take it or leave it. I feel like that’s what all women deserve. A chance to be themselves without the voices of others mucking it up.
What is your favorite part about the song?
It’s really fun to sing and I find that by the time I get to the second chorus everyone is singing along. That’s a great vibe to feel people getting into your song!
What were you most meticulous about on your latest song?
Honestly, we wrote the song pretty quickly at first and I sat on it for a while. I didn’t start to get meticulous until it came to producing it. I first produced it with Danny Myrick and then a little more additions, like adding live drums with Sully Erna. I started to tear it apart and put it back together with a few more phrases and things to just let it flow non stop.
Your latest collaboration, how did this come about?
My next release I wrote solo and did the first round of production with Danny Myrick. “TONGUES OF ANGELS” is probably the song that made me really feel like I knew what I wanted to sound like as an artist and especially for this EP. After the first iteration with Danny I sat on it for a while too. That’s a trend with me. I had done some writing and creating with my friend Nick Wheeler and decided I wanted him to wrap up production and make some additions to this song to finalize it.
Who did what on the song?
“Bad Bitches Like Me” was written by Sheena Brook and Megan Linville.

Production Danny Myrick and Sully Erna

“Tongues of Angels” was written by Sheena Brook

What was the writing process like?
Writing with Megan is a breeze. She’s a great songwriter on her own and a great friend so when we get together to write, which we do a lot, it’s sort of like hanging out and then BOOM a song. One of my favorite things about writing with Megs is we’ll write a line and she’ll say, “I don’t hate it” which is like it’s good but not great and sometimes we leave it but if you can get a “YES I LOVE THAT” out of her then it’s gold.
What kind of mood was set in order to create the magic?
I’m not a stickler for a certain vibe to write. It’s more that inspiration strikes and if I can just find a space to sit down I’m good. “Bad Bitches Like Me” was written via Zoom, which is not super vibey so it’s hard for me to do if I don’t know the co-writer well. Most of the other songs coming out were just written in a living room somewhere. A chill place to focus is really all it takes for me.
Is there a critique you’ve gotten on the single that you worked through and it’s made the overall work better?
When we first wrote it I had some empty space in there, not much but when Sully and I started in on it before we layered in live drums we filled in those spaces. He also pushed me to edit some of my vocals at the end to get as much energy out of the last chorus as possible. They were small changes but I feel they made a big difference.
What are you most excited about for fans to hear on your latest single?
I’m honestly just excited to give them something. I havn’t released anything in over 2 years so it’s a huge deal for me. I’m really proud of giving them something that feels so authentic to who I am and what message I always want to get across in my music.
What has been the best feedback so far?
A few friends of mine have messaged me and said that it’s just been on repeat during a workout or a jog. I love that the song is really pumping them up like that!
Leave us with your favorite fire lyrics of the song?
“I’m a Bad Bitch but only I can say it. I’ll just be myself, everybody quit complaining.”
