THE GOALS OF GREG HOY

What fire new music are you working on right now?

I’m just starting up the writing cycle again since writing and releasing ‘Cacophony’ last summer and fall. With the birth of my daughter, the house has been listening to a lot of female artists — Etta James, Dolly Parton, Billie Holiday — plus we watched both the Go-Go’s and the new Tina Turner documentaries. So IDK what exactly is gonna pop out of my brain however there’s a LOT of fem energy swirling about!

Name the biggest creative risk you’ve taken?

This is a shockingly hard question especially since everything feels extra risky these days, doesn’t it? The most recent moment that comes to mind was sending an email to Sylvia Massy in 2019. Would you be up to remix some songs? I’d admired her work & artistic approach for years and had listened to some podcast interviews where she talked about working with Tom Petty, Johnny Cash, and Tool. She was just the sweetest person, and she was happy to work with me. I flew to her studio in Oregon and it was like a crash course in how to mix and be humble even as you’re telling someone a story about working with Prince.

Who are you excited about working with this year?

This is a rebuilding year for most of us, and I am no exception! There’s a whole team of folks that have been partners in recent times. Vaguely, I’m really looking forward to meeting new bookers, bands, and bar owners when we can tour again! More specifically, my trusted engineer Jacob Winik will probably be involved in whatever new music I make. The great folks at HIP Video are always ready to advise the next goofy video ideas. And I’m pretty stoked to begin work with BSquared Management about all the things creative I love about being a musician.

Who is a dream collaboration?

I’d love to spend a week in a recording studio with Paul McCartney — just him, me, a bunch of coffee, instruments, and great wine. I’d even spring for the top shelf Trader Joe’s wine for that.

Where can new fans listen to your music?

Ideally, you should check out a copy of the vinyl record version of ‘Cacophony’ over on our Bandcamp page — https://greghoy.bandcamp.com/ — but Spotify, YouTube, or Apple Music work great, too.

Give us your socials:

I mostly use Instagram and Twitter, both are @thegreghoy, and the website is www.thegreghoy.com — all the streaming music services, too! Thank you for the questions. 🙂
