Shafer is more than a Salt Lake City, Utah rapper.
Shafer is a man with a message and purpose that we can all benefit from. He’s also the only artist that we’ve come across that is a firefighter. The first thing that comes to mind when we hear ‘firefighter’ is fearless, and that is exactly how Shafer approaches music. There is no topic he won’t touch, and nothing he’s afraid to say. His honesty and vulnerability is probably why fans relate to him so much.
After his critically acclaimed single Who Am I made it to NBC News, the rest was history. The single hit home for many firefighters and E.M.T workers across the United States, highlighting the mental health struggles that often go overlooked from some of our biggest heroes. The music video does a great job of showcasing what our first responders deal with on a daily basis, and we’re glad Shafer was recognized for his groundbreaking art.
Backslide feat. Wendy Lucas Out Now!
Moving on to Backslide featuring the soothing tones of Wendy Lucas, Shafer is using his voice for positivity once again. That is something we can appreciate, especially in today’s musical climate oversaturated by drug use and violence. Shafer highlights various vices that are all to familiar to us during our lowest moments. While we strive to move forward and leave these vices in the past, sometimes a Backslide is inevitable. Shafer talks about the importance of taking control once again every time you feel yourself slipping back in to your old ways.
Over triumphant piano chords, Shafer raps from the perspective of somebody a bit more hopeless than hopeful. Just when you think the artist has lost his way, Wendy Lucas comes in to bring him back to reality, helping him see things from a different perspective. You may feel like Shafer is talking directly to you or someone you know. Make sure you share this single with whoever needs to hear it!
Make sure you follow Shafer on Instagram as he continues to use his voice to change lives.
