Garden State Hip Hop Hour’s creator/host Rich Z and DJ Wallah, who does spins on Hot 97, Shade 45, and Sirus XM, to name a few, linked up to create a playlist with, what they considered to be, the best songs of 2020 from New Jersey artists.
Although last year was pure chaos, some of New Jersey’s finest musicians formulated singles that made others feel bad-ass. And ultimately, 2020 proved that, as a whole, we share some commonality.
In a nutshell, the 26 track playlist is a compilation of songs that concentrate on stories about hard work, tenacity, falling in (and out) of love, staying on guard, and living in the moment. Sonically, NJ’s Best of 2020 stayed rooted in the state’s staple sound, a.k.a Jersey Club Mix, trap, hip-hop, and R&B.
The artists who are featured on the playlist is Shotta Spence, Dougie F, Tsu Surf, Flakk So Brazy, Daidough, Cruch Calhoun, AllstarrDaGreat, Arsonal da Rebel, Bog Ooh, 070 Shake, Only Jahmez, Cookie Kawaii, Mike Zombie, DJ Jayhood, Wild Milly, Killa Klerk Cobain, Chad Piff, Chad B, NateTaylorr, Coi Leray, Kaylee Ameri, Trey Bndo, Fetty Wap, Justin Love, Mir Fontaine, pineappleCITI, Ant Beale, Samad Savage, and Mr.Chicken.
The NJ’s Best of 2020 playlist is great to listen to when you’re motivating yourself, at the gym, kicking it with friends, spending some alone time with bae, or at a lit function. Between every three to four songs, expect a transition of themes.
“NJ Hip Hop has been bubblin’ for a minute, but 2020 was a monumental year in both connecting artists and elevating the rap culture of NJ,” Rich stated.
