Renz Scruggs ‘Seasons’ Review

Renz Scruggs

Following the success of his visual for “Miami,” Renz Scruggs is back with a project titled Seasons. In hindsight, the themes in Seasons encompass the rapper’s ambition and come up. Likewise, the 14 track album reflects on his upbringing and ways with love. Sonically, the record dabbles in various forms of hip-hop and R&B. Another standout is the spitter’s versatility. Renz Scruggs appears as his authentic self in all of the songs and warns those who think about crossing him.

“The message behind this album is change. Changing daily like the Seasons,” he adds. “I’m from Northeast Ohio, so sometimes we get all four seasons in one day. That can play with your emotions and alter your moods. We don’t get consistent sunshine where we feel good. Most of the time, it’s gloomy. Cold. Seasons is about a kid from Northeast Ohio, who’s changing like the four seasons, sometimes all in one day. The album is about true human emotions.”

During the creative process for Seasons had to tap into the reality of his journey, which was far from easy.

Renz Scruggs continues

“I’ve been chasing this dream for years and finally coming to a point where I was ready to put all of the emotions throughout this journey into a collective. Not only the musical journey; the person who is going through it. I’m not the 24/7 artist guy. Sometimes I like to stay in the house and shut it off. But those thoughts and feelings of every day are still very active.”

Seasons ultimately unfolded by itself. The first song he created was “Opposite.” This is also his favorite record on the project.

“When I began writing the song, I knew it was special. I knew that it would go on a project, but I did not know what that project would be titled. But after a few more records, it felt like I was changing. Like the seasons,” he says.

One standout song from the album is “Add It Up.”

“Add It Up” is a victorious-type hip-hop offering that sees Renz Scruggs basking in the glory of his success. Using a slight auto-tune, he takes a confident approach. Renz Scruggs’ bars reminisce on what times were like before becoming a burgeoning star. He spits,

“I’m eating steak, but I come from them days with them ramen noodles in the pot.”

As the song continues, Renz Scruggs unveils how he’s made it to the top. The plan was simple. All the rapper did was put the pedal to the medal.

I was just in the slums with them killas and dealers, but I had to run it up vamanos,” he raps.

Deeper into “Add It Up,” he opens up to fans about facing harder times and leaning onto faith. This factor alone was beneficial for him and his career. Elsewhere, he continues to enjoy the fruits of his labor.

After, the spitter implies that he’s more concerned about the longevity of his career rather than settling down.

Though he didn’t have much support at the beginning of his musical journey, he made it happen.

They counted me out while I counted up/I see nothing but M’s on the counter.”

Before the song closes, he admits to being hesitant to trust. And if anyone even dares to put him in harm’s way, he’s “got the glock as a passenger.”

“Add It Up” ends with Renz Scruggs comparing his past to the present.

Renz Scruggs is a go-getter, and that trait certainly reflects itself in his discography. Holding nothing back in his bars, the rapper speaks about his lifestyle, getting to the bag, and newfound achievements. Likewise, Renz Scruggs remains transparent, expressing what he’s gone through and how it made him feel.

“I aim to be real. I’m a human being. There are times where I am happy and write songs that reflect it. There are times where I’m going through something and times where I write about that. So I don’t believe I have a ‘particular sound.’ I write music based on how I feel—real human emotions. I want my message to be exactly that. I am embracing my feelings and not being afraid to show them.”

The musician began his musical journey at 13-years-old. Subsequently, he found some troubles in the beginning stages.

He adds, “I ran into was finding my sound, being comfortable with myself enough to be me through the music. It eventually came with maturation in life. Getting different experiences, growing, truly liking who I’ve become as a person.”
