Red Martinez – “Dumb Dumb” (Review)

Red Martinez

Putting a former flame in their place, respectfully, Red Martinez expresses his regret about giving them the benefit of the doubt in “Dumb Dumb.” His hard-hitting bars are led with full transparency and reasoning.

Over a poppy R&B beat, the Finding Carajo Land artist gets a word in about how his ex’s actions have affected him. Moreover, Red Martinez tells all about past love’s faults & fibs via these lines.

Now see this the sh*t that make me upset/Don’t twist my words ’cause that’s not what I said/M******, scroll up, re-read my text/To be honest yo I should of f****n’ bounced/But I was being nieve & I ignored the sounds/The universe was tossing & throwing me signs/Finally ended it after the millionth time.”

He further details the nature of their relationship, unveiling that his ex has no excuses for his current actions. Additionally, Red Martinez mentions that he’s the one who courted this individual.

Sticking to his truth, he raps,

I said what I said, and I meant that sh*t/So don’t try & act like I’m insensitive/And I asked him out, aint that ironic?!/Boy, you make me wanna go back in the closet.

Following this, Red Martinez says their falling out came as a total shocker. As mentioned earlier, the musician also confesses that his loved ones warned him to stay far away from this ex. After, Red reads him for filth.

Thought he was the one, but now I gotta run baby/That boy is dumb dumb/Actually dumb dumb/If you haven’t guessed it by now, you aren’t the one.”

The second verse finds the “Get ‘Em” musician unremorseful about his ex’s feelings. Red Martinez continues by calling him out, especially for his inadequacies.

He used to be smooth to his defense /But nowadays? That’s pretense/Captain save a ho needs, someone, to save me/His feelings? No longer phase me,” he raps along with “Can’t get his shit together if he wants to/Take account for ya action, this aint cute.

How does your new single differ from your previous records?

Well, “Dumb Dumb” has more of a radio-friendly sound than some of my other tracks. I wanted to play around with me singing and holding a note. I’m always talking about heartbreak and relationship headaches so i figured I would turn a negative situation into a bop!

How would you describe your sound palette in this track per se?

My project “Finding Carajo Land” (which this single comes from) has more of a commercial crossover and gave me a different outlook on my music & artistry. If i can make a comparison i would like to think of this EP as a delicious meal with all the fixings, having Dumb Dumb being a sauce that pairs perfectly with a meal. (Probably Mayo-Ketchup)

Favorite line off the record:

Everyone who listens to the song tells me it’s…

“Fuck ya job, Fuck ya little check

Fuck the stupid bish that u get with next

Fuck ya friends fuck ya nosey mama

Fuck ya ugly ass stupid chihuahua”

But mine is definitely…

“Captain save a ho need someone to save me

His feelings?! No longer phaze me

I’m bout to say fuck it, become a cat lady

Cuz u got me out here looking fucking crazy!”

One of your biggest accomplishments:

That the boy I wrote this about got his feelings hurt JK! (I think) I would have to say that this video almost didn’t happen and I’m glad folks liked & shared it so much.

What or who inspired the song?

My ex was an idiot so I decided to be petty and right a song that I knew would be a hit.

What do you hope fans take from your music?

Enjoy a good bop and something to relate to, music has that power and it is really the kind of art I want to make…Queer folks like myself go thru just as much mess as straight folks and sometimes we gotta move on.

Advice for new artists:

Don’t settle, take time and plan everything, and practice practice practice. If you don’t love it don’t put it out. And please reach out to the elders in your community for tips.
