Producer Spotlight: Slickda3rd

Slickda3rd is a Chicago-based entrepreneur, record producer, mix engineer, and graphics artist. Sonically, the beatsmith creates soundscapes that incorporate trap arrangements, a booming bassline, and kick-snares. In like manner, he strives for a palette of sounds that are resemblant to big-time artists. For instance, SlickDa3rd’s newest song “Signals” gains inspiration from G Herbo‘s and NoCap‘s musical styling.  Slickda3rd describes his sound as a “trap feel with melodic elements, drums, and 808’s that knock.”

Clocking in at two minutes and thirty-one seconds, “Signals” is a trap symphony offering that couples a soulful yet sweet humming loop with light piano chords, hi-hats, kick-snares, and other boomy elements. Though the pattern remains consistent, its instrumentation speaks volumes. Needless to say, if you’re looking for a producer who can do different takes on a typical trap beat, he’s your go-to.

Slickda3rd came up with his moniker while creating a cool and unique Snapchat username. The “3rd” is initially apart of his name because he’s named after his grandfather and dad. His musical journey commenced after his stepdad brought home FL Studio, which is a digital audio workstation.

“He wanted to make beats at first, but I ended up falling in love with the program at 11 years old,” he continues. “That progressed into me producing for myself and locals around Chicago, now Atlanta.”

Slickda3rd thrives off of knowing that he’s a better version of himself than yesterday. Before hopping in the booth, he enjoys vibing out and gaining influence from his catalog. Additionally, the producer sees where he can improve and get even better.

“I love to keep improving and making my craft better,” he adds.

In other Slickda3rd news, he dropped a collaborative project with rapper Dre Cartier, titled OverTime. The 8-track musical compilation meshes trap soundscapes with aggressive, somber, and other invigorating loops. The themes at hand go in-depth about loyalty, living in the moment, getting to the bag, one-upping the competition, and following the code.

“I hope my fans take away good vibes and inspiration, especially since I make the beats, mix the song, and create the cover art,” Slickda3rd says about his music.

Stay tuned! Slickda3rd has some heat dropping with NBA Meechy Baby and Young Chop. He also has a collaborative EP with Philly artist Stacks Ruega that’s dropping in November, and more singles on the way with his artist Dre Cartier.
