Burnie, Colten, and Caleb have been playing music together for close to 16 years, they’ve been in other bands together as well as touring the US multiple times. The three of them met through local church functions in Mansfield, Ohio. Burnie met Daniel and Chris through the local scene in Denton, Texas. The five have been playing together for close to years now. NYGMA started as an outlet that wasn’t faith-based even though you hear them touch on their faith, backgrounds, and beliefs in lyrics. They grew up in Church/shul, their parents are pastors, etc. With NYGMA, they wanted to explore other avenues and that’s where they are now.
Congratulations on your latest music! What is the biggest tip you followed when creating the sound?
All of our tips come from our little circle of friends and family. Someone will let us know if something needs to be tweaked. The biggest tip we have received is “Take inspiration – If you surround yourself with music you love, it’s hard to go wrong.”
How did the sound evolve from the start to the finish?
We finish a song about 20 times before we really consider it finished. We will finish one version of a song, then a week later we will want to change it. We are constantly molding the songs as we go. The sound never stops evolving.
Any tricks up your sleeve when making the music?
Record your songs no matter how unfinished they are. Then keep going back to the song and tweaking things about it. We have recorded 3-4 versions of one song until it’s right!
Was there a collection of ideas that you had or did you have a really specific idea on the music?
We have multiple writers in the band so there is a collection of ideas. We try to bring all the ideas together for a final product. We all make cool stuff on our own, but when we all spearhead a song, it comes out way better.
How much time do you demand of yourself to focus on music?
We dedicate most days to focus on the band and music. It’s the only way to keep the wheels going.
Do you have any tips or tricks for our audience on how to manage your time when it comes to making sure your music is on track for release?
Time management is so hard to nail down. But we will just say, release all the music you can along with media, like music videos. We have found some success through just putting out as much as we can. Playing as many shows as possible!
Give us links and all to hear the music and follow you!
