New Music with Liv Byrne!

Hello Liv! Thank you for speaking with me today!
Thank you for speaking with ME!

Your most recent release is your song, Walk By! Will you tell us about the inspiration behind it?
Yes! “Walk By” is about two people who are attracted to each other but are afraid to fall in love. As a young adult, I think that’s a thing a lot of us feel. When introduced with something real and long-term sometimes we question whether we are ready, or even, too young for what the future might hold.

You are getting ready to release your full length album! What can listeners expect sonically on the album?
Yes! My upcoming album “Growing Pains” discusses the growth one makes when they move out on their own for the first time. I wanted the music to reflect that. At the beginning of the album, a lot of the production feels a little rigid or disorienting to reflect the lack of stability within the narrator. As the album continues, there is an acapella piece – this represents the narrator finally getting their voice and the listener notices how the music begins to get smoother and make sense sonically. That being said, I included a lot of notes/harmonies that don’t sound like they work at first (but they do) because I like to think that sound adds to the lyrics. The album is very lyric and vocal based discussing hesitancy to being vulnerable and open to change. The production includes a lot of bass, synths, pianos, and orchestral tracks.

How was the recording process for the album?
I wrote and produced all the music in my bedroom/apartment before I went to the studio so when I arrived, the focus was just on getting all the layers done.

Do you have a favorite song on the record?
I really like one of the interludes “Wish.” When I wrote the song, I thought I was writing about this guy but I remember waking up the next morning and realizing the song was actually about my insecurity within writing. For me as a person, that moment was a big shift in my perspective, I realized only when discussing meaningless crushes did I allow myself to reflect on how I was feeling emotionally. That ended up shifting how I finished writing the album. I also really like the lyrics, melody, and harmonies – they feel like my soul in a way. And I love that I got to shout out some of my songwriting idols in the piece – Frank Ocean, Lucky Daye, Daniel Caesar, and Charlotte Day Wilson. A personal favorite in the song is the first line – “wish I was Frank, wish I was Lucky” – because it has a double meaning: I wish I was open about my feelings and/or lucky enough that someone would come into my life and break down my walls so I HAVE to be vulnerable; and the line also means I wish I was open about myself in music like Frank Ocean and Lucky Daye.

What are you most looking forward to most about listeners getting to hear your album?
Hearing people’s thoughts & opinions. This is my first time really sharing my music with others so I’m curious to see how it’s digested.

What has been the most surreal part of the process so far?
Hearing the album altogether mixed and mastered for the first time was really surreal because now my music, vulnerability, and feelings are something tangible and not just a demo or voice recording stored somewhere on my phone or harddrive.

Anything else coming up that you want people to be on the lookout for?
I have some custom made “digital heart earrings” coming out that I collaborated with Smells Like Crime on to promote my single “I <3 Olivia!” They are very cute and represent a sense of love that we all can appreciate during these times.
