Naf Hamid – God What It Take? / Count It Up

Don’t dismiss me I ain’t situated, what it take to be yo’ n*gga baby?

North Carolina hip-hop artist Naf Hamid surprises fans with a new release and music video to end the year. The lyrical artist wastes no time getting to the bars including an interesting metaphor in the title of the track, God, What It Takes. We’ll leave that up for you to decipher in the comments below! Naf Hamid, strongly inspired by jazz and blues, clearly has an appreciation for instruments. The slightly go-go inspired drums and soulful chords set a vibrant stage for the Carolina rapper to take the song where ever he wants.

He tells an uplifting story of pursuing a girl before you really have all your sh*t together. The listener is left to wonder how she will respond, and if Naf Hamid got what it takes? Naf Hamid nicely narrates his story with great songwriting and cadence. In his first verse, he slurs his rhyme scheme, similar to Project Pat of Three 3 Mafia, while still delivering thoughtful punchlines and flows. Let us know if you hear it too!

The song nicely transitions to Count It Up, an interlude where Naf Hamid shows off some of his vocal ability. The visuals, shot and edited by JB Media, showcase the next scene taking place at an *undisclosed time later*. Naf Hamid counts up hundreds with the girl he was trying to get at in his past, letting us know he clearly took the W.

Where are you from and what/who are your greatest influences?

Naf Hamid: I’m from Charlotte, North Carolina. And off the top? That’s tough, I’d have to give you like five inspirations from each genre I like. But always Hip-Hop and moving it forward, while tying it to the music that came before it (soul, funk, blues, jazz etc.). My current top musical inspiration would have to be Marvin Gaye though! Tryna get that Distant Lover live- fan love when it’s said and done.
