Music and Inspiration with Elio Quest

What have you been working on lately? 

My debut record, “Harlem, Ca” is set to be released later this year and I’m ecstatic about it! So, we are very busy with that. As well as an upcoming tour. Major promo has begun and I cannot wait to share this with everyone!

 

Who inspired you to get into music?

My parents. Both musicians and both great singers.

 

When was the first time you recall thinking that you wanted to pursue music as your career?

​When I was like 6 or 7. Playing my mother’s upright acoustic piano. Wanting to play for her every 5 minutes, and pretending that there was a humongous crowd behind her! Whatever I thought sounded good lol. I love being on stage. I love performing.

 

What is your favorite song you’ve written and why?

​A song called “Transparent”. It’s very real and very raw. Hence the title! And anyone can relate to it. I wrote it in 10 minutes on a flight back to Los Angeles. I had just broken up with my girlfriend at the time. I had to sit on the plane for 6 hours pondering if I made the right decision or not. And it wasn’t the right decision. It was horrific.

 

Who are some of the artists currently inspiring you?

​The Roots always inspire me. That’s my favorite band of all time. But MGK inspires me right now. I like his musicianship. He’s not afraid to try new things. He’s fearless. That’s dope!

 

What are you hoping to see in the music world as it continues to evolve?

​My passion is musicianship. Instrumentation. And Love! I’d like to see the world picking up an instrument and playing together again! That’s world peace!
