Mjayy advises listeners to tread lightly when befriending someone in his song, “Heart.” He does so by speaking from personal experience. This single can be found on his 7-track EP Heart of My Hood.
Like the lyrical context, the instrumental encompasses a melancholic tone. It also has hip-hop arrangements that are led by a piano chord & passionate hymns.
On “Heart,” the musician balances his rhyme schemes with slight autotune. At the beginning of the song, he speaks briefly about his upbringing. Then, Mjayy proceeds to air out his grievances against a former friend.
He spits, “Came from a place where it was dark, fucked with your mental/I learned everything ain’t genuine & they mention what they lend you/You supposed to be my bro/Keep it between us that’s what men do.”
Given this excerpt, his fans can decipher that Mjayy is speaking about fake friends.
This passage also drives home the narrative,
“They give me dab when they see me/But believe me can’t give no trust to these niggas.”
Despite his former friends’ wrongdoing, he wishes them the best. However, if they decide to choose violence, he guarantees that its up.
Seeing his former friend’s true colors has been beneficial for Mjayy in the long run. But, Mjayy swears to remain cautious of who he hangs around.
As the song continues, he opens up about a betrayal that hurt him in the worst way. Because of what transpired, he is wary of who he trusts. Yet, this turn of events showed him the friends who were truly there for him. Because of their loyalty, Mjayy is riding with them until the end of time.
“My circles small because of you/My brothers with me they gon’ ride.”
The song ends with Mjayy reminding us that he’s as “solid as they come.” Additionally, the rapper talks about his flyness & dominating the globe with his day ones.
