Micah Jay admits to his faults in a breakup via “Can’t Explain.” Over a bedroom R&B beat, the musician sings about attempting to move on. But, to his dismay, she rejects his efforts.
“I really played myself/Since you been gone my life hasn’t been the same/I keep calling my new girl your name,” he sings. “I guess ’cause I don’t have you anymore, that’s why you’re constantly on my brain/Now I get the pain that you said you feel in your heart.”
Elsewhere, Micah Jay explains why the relationship went south.
“I knew the love was real/I just gotta swallow the pill and deal with being the one to blame for us not being together cause I rather be worrying about my needs instead of putting yours first,” he croons. “I didn’t pay attention to how much it hurt you that’s one of the things I promise to never do/But you knew there’s always a special place for you in my heart.”
This vulnerable passage is followed by a sincere apology and introspective lyrics about his views on love.
He sings, “I get too jealous, or I feel there too clingy manly I get tired of people too fast/That’s probably why my relationship never last or maybe I don’t show enough affection to the point where I have to question my past relationships.”
The singer ends “Can’t Explain” by reflecting on the pain that’s stemmed from failed relationships.
