Mel The Prophet has dropped a track that evokes listeners to do a bit of soul searching.
Produced by TJ Humphrey, “RETOUCH MY SOUL” finds the extraordinary lyricist opening up as he revisits some former experiences. He begins to take accountability for some of the wrongs he’s taken part in. Though Mel The Prophet looks on the bright side, it seems as if darkness might be caving in.
Over the spacey, 2000’s-esque R&B beat, he switches from a melodic to a complex flow, saying
“I did some wrong, and I repent/I did some right/They must forget/I forgive don’t ask/Then ask to forgive/I deal with negative/Just to be positive/That’s how I live/To be real as sh*t.”
Afterward, he thinks back on his old ways. The emcee takes full responsibility. He speaks about once being too promiscuous and careless with his funds. Nevertheless, he is working toward having a clean slate. Like the song title suggests, Mel The Prophet seeks Him to “retouch my soul.” He’s lent a hand toward his community, but the things that happened prior cost him a solid foundation with the Mrs.
He raps,
