‘Candor’ Available On All Streaming Platforms
Opening up early with the album titled track “ Candor”, Levite immediately talks about struggles with past relationships and his need to express the truth. “My team and I knew we wanted to put out this project based on the truth and breaking the generational curse of silence” says Lyrical Levite. If this is what he was aiming for, he hit the mark by staying true to his experiences and struggles. As you hear him rap on songs like “Never Again” and “Liela”, the sincerity in his words shine through. These tracks draw attention because the production gives us that heavy trap influence that we’re used to hearing in most music, but with a completely different message.
Influenced by rappers such as NF and Lecrae, Levite wants you to hear his story and how his faith in God has carried him through his toughest times. The California-based artist admitted that his faith had once been conflicted by his relationship with his father, who is also a pastor. Levite still managed to stay on course. “The church can sometimes be a hurtful place to be. I’m a pastor’s son and it’s not always an inviting environment.” While some tracks may be steeped in his pain, there are just as many that show his connection to his faith.
Lyrical Levite Breaks His Silence
Millions of men are victims of sexual assault. While it may not be spoken about as much as the experiences of women, it still does happen. According to a study done by the National Sexual Violence Resource Center nearly 1 in 4 men have been victims of sexual assault. Lyrical Levite himself is a survivor of sexual assault.
“At a young age i was sexually abused.” when referencing his sexual abuse by a family member at the age of four. He said the experience had caused him to fall into a pattern of silence, something that he knows most victims also struggle with in the aftermath of sexual abuse. Levite credited therapy as something that helped him move through his trauma. We may have his therapist to thank for this entire album, who advised him to include his trauma in his music to help him move forward in the healing process.
“That was new for me… I never felt like talking about what I was going through.”
More importantly, Levite isn’t using music just to help himself. One of his main goals is to reach other people and aid in their healing process as well.
