Lotus Blooming brings us in to her world on Lunar Lotus.
Lotus Blooming flows over a looping flute that will make you keep this one on repeat. The Chicago rapper calmy expresses herself, touching on her upbringing, overcoming personal demons, and relationships. In the first verse she raps:
this matrix I done beat it/ these beats I’m always eating/ I look at my reflection I start fighting my demons.
She further describes her journey to self discovery and ultimately ‘freedom’. Her cadence and tone remind us a lot of Future here (without the lean, percocet, and molly addiction).
Lotus Blooming quickly switches her flow in verse two showing us she has the abilility to rap with anyone. You may notice the unconventional pauses in her rhymes and the pockets she chooses to get in. This will prove to set her apart from many when she approaches an instrumental in a way few would think of. Notable bars from verse two include:
If you only knew how hard I work/ you would understand why I won’t/ take my eyes off what I want.
Got a long way to go so I’m comfortable/flex on my ex like ‘heard you’/You had me at my worst/thank god I know my worth.
Final Thoughts
This is a chill song that will grow on you with every listen. Big shoutout to Rich Baby on the production. Lotus Blooming adds fitting melodies to the track while not sacrificing her lyrics at all. The introspective message is consistent throughout; hard work and sacrifice in the name of chasing freedom. Once again, we’re pretty sure everyone can relate to this!
