Three weeks after his latest EP release, we spoke with Lil T to hear more about how the project ‘DREAM WORLD’ came about, musical influences to develop his sound, growing up in Brooklyn, and more. Check out the project below and keep reading to find out more about the 19-year-old up and coming artist.
“I’m overall a very normal guy. I’m just a kid trying to make his dream come true and earn generational wealth for my family.”
“I’m from a middle-class neighborhood in Brooklyn, NY. My neighborhood has its problems every now and then but overall it was a great place to grow up as a kid.I try to make myself different from everyone because of the competition of artists in NY. Solute to everyone coming up out of New York.”
“Funny thing… my mom wouldn’t allow me to listen to explicit music as a kid, so she always used to play me music or give me music to listen to.So I grew up listening to a lot of Michael Jackson and the Beatles. I listened to Caribbean music because my dad is from Trinidad. As I got older, I started listening to J. Cole, Eminem, and Logic.”
“Playboi Carti, Lil Uzi, and Pi’erre Bourne were some early influences when I first started making music. Over the past year or so, I’ve been a fan of Lil Skies, Lil Mosey, and Lil Tecca.”
“Honestly, with everything going on in the world right now, every now and then we need to escape and go to a place mentally that makes us happy. That’s what I want my music to do. I made a 4 track EP that people can listen to throughout these times.”
“This project means the world to me. It represents that I’m not going anywhere and I’m here to stay. I know times will get tough, but I’ve been through so much already… so why not struggle a little bit more? Not to only prove everyone wrong, but to prove myself right.”
“The overall theme is to have fun and enjoy life. If we’ve learned anything from 2020, it’s that tomorrow isn’t guaranteed. So, you should do what you want to do TODAY because tomorrow isn’t promised.”
“Oh, definitely ‘Fantasy’ by far. I feel that it has the most replay value. It’s a song that could be played on the radio or in the club and it has potential to go viral on Tik Tok.”
“It was a long process because I’m very picky when it comes to my beats. I don’t know what it is, but I need something special in order for me to fall in love with it. Big shoutout to jayepps and KJ Run It Up.
Jayepps produced ‘Perfect’ and ‘Lamelo Ball’. And KJ Run It Up produced ‘Winning Team’ and ‘Fantasy’.”
FOLLOW JAYEPPS FOLLOW KJ Run It Up“I usually write a couple different songs before I go to the studio. I like to make sure my product is ready before I even get there. Even before that, I find a beat that I like, and I usually listen to it around 10-20 times to see if it fits me or not. If I like it, I spend time writing a hook and writing either one or two verses depending on the track.”
“Everything. Without music, I’d be nothing. It gives me a purpose to wake up every day… to stay out of trouble. It gave me a perspective on life that I didn’t have before. When I was at my lowest point in my life, music picked me up and got me back on my feet. I’ll always owe the game for that fact alone.”
“The hardest decision I’ve ever made. Not because I didn’t believe in myself or I wasn’t confident, it was because of the connotation around it. At that time, I hadn’t proved anything or even made a dollar off of music. So naturally the question was “how are you going to make a career out of this?” But at the end of the day this is what makes me happy and I’m going to go as far as music will take me. That’s all I can ask for.”
“No matter who you are or how big you get, there will always be room to improve. For me, I’m working to perfect my sound, learning how to mix and master my own music, and learning how to make my own beats and cover art. I want to become more comfortable not relying on anyone for anything.”
“I’m very marketable. I feel like I’m the perfect guy to have in your commercial or endorse a product. My music, for the most part, is clean and could be played on radio without bleeping out every other word. Fun fact actually, I only curse one time on the entire EP. And finally, my work ethic. I may not be the most talented artist and I don’t have the most followers on Instagram yet, but I make up for that with hours and hours of hard work and dedication that others aren’t willing to put in.”
“You can definitely follow me on Instagram for my latest updates and releases. All of my music is available on SoundCloud right now.”
NEW FIRE MUSIC Like he said, Lil T is definitely here to stay. With a love for music and a drive to continue creating no matter what, we can’t wait to see the progression. Follow Lil T below and check out his SoundCloud to support!
