Coming out of Trenton, New Jersey, Johnny Quest The Rebel is a true Hip-Hop aficionado. If you’re looking for lyrics, great song making ability, replay value, and top-tier production, you’ve come to the right place. The Trenton-based Hip-Hip artist definitely has something to say. It only takes one song to realize that Johhny Quest has the creativity and skill level to paint pictures fit for the MET. He’s using his voice to leave thoughtful and positive messages in the universe. Outside of being an artist, “our voice gets taken away by a lot of other walks of life” says Quest.
Music is one of the purest forms of self expression. Johhny Quest cited the ability to express yourself as one of his main reasons for pursuing music. Now a seasoned veteran, he has officially mastered the art of making music feel like you’re watching a movie. You could just let this project play as background noise, but you’d seriously be missing out. On Vacation Bible School, Quest takes us through the lessons learned on a dissonant spiritual journey towards self awareness.
The artist kicks off the project with “Foreword/Prayers and Thoughts”. Quest’s voice comes in powerfully. You get the feeling of being on a rollercoaster slowly inching up in to the sky. As you continue to anticipate the beat dropping, Quest sets the stage for the EP. “Hand to god we will never fold”. This was the perfect intro song to get you excited for a cohesive album full of hard hitting production, beautiful choir samples, and vivid storytelling. We learn that the church has not only kept Johnny Quest alive, but it has also kept him balanced from the gluttonous desires that we learn about on songs like Designer Casket. But who doesn’t want money and nice things?
There are a ton of stand out tracks on this EP. The choir samples do a great job of adding cohesion to the project, another subtle tactic used by J Quest to paint the Vacation Bible School picture. Conversation With God and Boots In The Sand are two of my personal favorites. The latter sounds like 50 Cent found the samples from Jesus Walks and lost his mind in the studio. We also get a hilarious skit leading in to “Biblical Tat”, a song about people with religious tattoos who are everything but godly.

Tell us about your submitted release?
Johnny Quest The Rebel “Vacation Bible School is a project about an individual spiritual journey and the roller coaster ride that takes place with that. The title comes from the church event that takes place every summer. My thought behind it was everyone was welcome to VBS. Even the baddest kids in the hood, their grandma had them in VBS. So this is not a Christian project it’s an open invitation to connect to something bigger than yourself through lifes trials and tribulations and the realization of the thing that is bigger than you is within.”
