Inanna Talks Lyricism, Storytelling, and Caring for the Planet

Hi Inanna! Great to speak with you!

Hello all! Thanks for having me!

Have you been working on any new projects recently that you want to tell us about?

Yes! I have just released a new song called Collapse of an Empire, I’m currently working on the music video for it, which was shot entirely on green screen, so we are now working on the environment and special effects. I am also working on some new artwork and merchandise (a cool secret project with a very strong environmentalist message) and I’m collecting all my lyrics in a book that I hope to publish by the end of the Summer.

What are your sources of inspiration for your lyrics and storytelling?

All my lyrics and music are dedicated to nature, animals and the future of planet Earth, so I always have the feeling that inspiration is endless. There is always so much to tell about the wonders of the natural world, and there is so much to reflect upon our relationship with it, that it makes me feel constantly inspired. I just have to look around, take in, explore, look at how humans relate to the planet, and I find so many inputs and poetic ideas.

When you are at a gig, what are 3 things you have to have with you?

Bell sleeves or a veil so I can play and dance with them when I’m singing, at least a couple of dancers, and the Earth flag.

Was there a record or artist that changed your life the first time you heard them?

Placebo, in the late 90s. They have always been my reference and my first music love. I owe a lot to them and I still follow their work. Last year I even collaborated with the bassist of Placebo and we made a beautiful song together called Multiverse.

How do you want people to feel when they listen to your music?

I want them to feel empowered, knowing that there’s a lot they can do when it comes to the health and the future of the Earth. I want them to come together, be allies in the protection of our beautiful, unique planet. I want them to feel the awe and the wonder for the natural world and all earthlings, because only when we truly see we learn to truly care.
