I Sosa details how he’s “obsessed with this love he found” in “spinnin’.” Dedicated to a blissful summer romance, the feel-good dream pop beat lyrically displays the euphoria one feels from seeing their favorite person.
The singer says “spinnin'” is inspired by times when he’s experienced the rush of new relationship energy. But Samm Henshaw is also an artist that holds weight in his artistry.
Lines like these drive the narrative home:
“Fill me with ecstasy/Feels like I’m living a fantasy/When you’re here next to me/Baby, I can’t wait To see your face.”
I Sosa’s admiration for his sweetheart also transcends within a smooth, robust singing range. Another striking feature in “spinnin'” is the marriage of bright piano loops, 808s, guitar chords, and other intergalactic-inspired arrangements.
“The piano solo was written by Andrew and Shakoor separately. They never heard the other’s solo while recording. But when I slapped them together, it fit in this wonderful complimentary way,” he adds. “If you listen with headphones, Shakoor is on the left while Andrew is on the right.”
He adds,
“I wanted some accountability, so I called on four friends who were all objectively better than me in at least one area of music.
Shakoor Bess and Andrew Abrahamsen play piano way better than I can. Hermona Tamrat understands chord structures better than I do, and she plays guitar. Ryan Temple knows his way around Logic Pro better than I do.
I gathered everyone for a show and tell of their music scraps. We picked a chord progression by Shakoor and built from there. Ryan ended up running the logic session while I was beatboxing at him to get the drum pattern down.
The lyrics for the chorus came to me in bits and pieces, maybe an hour after everyone had left my apartment. Each time I wanted to start something new, I worked on ‘spinnin” and pushed it a little further until I had what you hear today.”
All-in-all, “spinnin'” is meant to induce a fuzzy feeling for listeners deeply in love.
“spinnin’” is a collaboration between i, sosa and four friends, Hermona Tamrat, Shakoor Bess, Andrew Abrahamsen and Ryan Temple, who provide additional beats and production on the track.
Moving forward, I Sosa plans on grow his following as a solo artist and produce session breakdowns to inspire others around the world to sample and share his music.
