Hoody Hawi Is The Fastest Rapper Alive, Grab Your Stopwatch

Meet Hoody Hawi, your new favorite Bay Area artist you can’t get enough of.

Stopwatch by Hoody Hawi and Asia Eros is the party you wish you were invited to. Hailing all the way from the San Francisco Bay Area, this summer record, originally released earlier this year in August, got our attention for a few reasons. Hawi chose the perfect beat for this twerk anthem, inhabiting that west coast bounce that we’ve grown to love from legends such as E-40 and more recent acts like Shoreline Mafia. If you aren’t dancing an soon as the beat comes on, you might need to check your pulse. Additionally, the visual captured by Vizualante is both memorable and creative. They set an unforgettable scene with enough eye candy for even you (yes, I’m talking to you).

As soon as you hit play, we are taken to what looks like your local college or high school track, where there is ‘breaking news’ of a high stakes foot race for who’s the fastest rapper alive. Competing for the title of Fastest Rapper, we have Skipper Da Bipper, Silkly Da Scammer (who has credit cards sticking out of his silk durag), and our main character La’Crease Johnson (AKA Hoody Hawi). In his uncreasable Air Force Ones, La’Crease sh*ts on the competition and easily wins the race. And now it’s time to celebrate.

I doubt you’ll be paying attention to the words, but Hoody Hawi didn’t cut any corners with his delivery. He calmly flows over the Selam Sound produced instrumental, encouraging your girl to let that thang loose. The simple but effective chorus preludes a melodic verse from the beautiful Asia Eros. Asia isn’t afraid to boast her figure as long as the cash keeps coming. ‘Freaky b*tch, bust it open for the right price’ sums it up pretty well. Hoody Hawi, or La’Crease Johnson, is a genius. While he may have left a bit to be desired lyrically, this wasn’t the time or the place for that. Stopwatch was Hawi’s only release this year, and his intention was clearly to drop a single with a ton of replay value to hold fans over.  In the right setting, this song is a hit. If you’re looking for multi-layered metaphors, go listen to his 5:55 LAX Freestyle. If Drake taught us anything about dropping a time and location in a song title, it’s that bars are coming! But I digress. Don’t think too hard about Stopwatch feat. Asia Eros. Just cut it on and enjoy yourself.

Follow Hoody Hawi on Instagram to keep up with his journey. This definitely won’t be the last time we hear from him.
