Fatboi Sharif, a New Jersey-based rapper, and Roper Williams, a producer who worked with Piink Siifu, YL, and Maxo, to name a few, have teamed up for their eye-opening project titled Gandhi Loves Children. In a word, the album exposes America for its treachery, using enigmatic wordplay to grasp the listener’s attention. Rather than express the apparent problems in this world, Gandhi Loves Children digs deep and brings other ordeals to light, the ones others are afraid to speak about. Furthermore, the musician opens up about his own dealings. But, the real highlight of this musical composition is that it challenges the unknown.
“You got an iconic figure of peace that is celebrated, but there were demons inside of him. I think that’s how the world is, especially in this new decade,” the duo states. “The opening track, “Tragic,” has the line “Gandhi loves children” in it, and that symbolizes the album for us.”
Sonically, Gandhi Loves Children blends boom-bap instrumentals with eerie elements, jazz, and gospel arrangements. Fatboi Sharif’s cadence is akin to MF DOOM and Earl. He also distinguishes himself from his rap peers by delivering his rhymes in a spoken word fashion and other innovative flows.
Some standout tracks are “Smithsonian,” “Arsenic,” “Galvy,” “Stigmata,” and “Nuclear Warfare.” But I recommend that you give the whole tape a spin.
