Exclusive Interview with Nubella Honey

Hello! Thank you for speaking with me today!

What have you been working on lately?

Lately, I’ve been working on getting a team together to showcase my album Sagittarius to a broader audience. I recently went back to the studio after a 10-month hiatus to record a single for a side project that I’m working on with my friend, smktheproducer.

 

Who inspired you to get into music?

There are a lot of incredible musicians that have inspired me over the years. However, my aha moment was when I wrote my first song.

 

When was the first time you recall thinking that you wanted to pursue music as your career?

In the 6th grade, I remember vividly being gone while humming to Mary J Blige in health class. I remember mindlessly writing down melodic words, unaware of what was going on outside of my pen and paper, and getting interrupted by the bell with a notebook of lyrics. That day became the pivot moment in which I knew that I wanted to be a musician.

 

What is your favorite song you’ve ever released and why?

My favorite song from my album Sagittarius is Nubella Honey because this song was my internal push to explore and write love songs. I remember being enamored with Nubella Honey in 2016, purposefully knowing that I needed to record Nubella Honey. Fast forward to 2020, at the height of the pandemic, I began writing Sagittarius, and the first song that came to mind to be on the album was Nubella Honey.

 

Who are some of the artists currently inspiring you?

At the moment, I’m currently inspired by artists like Anderson Paak, Jungle, Curtis Mayfield..etc. I love great quality music, and I appreciate artists that create with that mindset.

 

Any plans to start performing live as shows pick back up? 

I can’t wait to start performing live this summer.

 

What is your favourite song to perform?

My favorite songs to perform are Loose from my album Sagittarius and 16 Saltines by Jack White which is on my setlist.

 

What are you hoping to see in the music world as it continues to evolve?

I would love to see more original quality music, and I would love to see artists get paid what they deserve.
