East Coast Drill Scene Taking Over Millennial Hip-Hop/Rap

Drill Music isn’t a new concept, actually, quite a few sub-genres emerged in the past 3-4 years deriving from the sound. This list is comprised solely of East Coast Drill music, all made by artists from the Northeast!

Now there are PLENTY of East Coast Drill artists making noise, but here’s a few on our radar right now.

Vontee the Singer – Not Gon Cryyy

I’m fairly new to Vontee the singer, but admittedly the Mary J sample caught me.

With the rise of East Coast Drill, I’m noticing a lot of experimentation with the sound. “Not Gon Cryyy,” was produced by East Coast Drill Maven Cash Cobain, one of the founding Father’s of R&B/Drill production.

Commonly, drill is very fast paced followed by aggressive lyrics and a rough/tough persona. I’ve been hearing the same fast paced beats, but instead with R&B/Soul samples and it may be my most favored type of drill sound.

Chow Lee – DUI

A proud upholder of the R&B/Drill sound, of course we had to throw Chow on the list! With Accolades from ontheradarradio, The New York Times, Rolling Stone, Rolling Loud, and more; Chow’s got East Coast Drill in a chokehold and he’s only getting started.

B-Lovee – Shottas

B-Lovee is another one on the forefront of the East Coast Drill scene. One if not the first of many drill artists to push the movement forward, you can’t speak of East Coast Drill without mentioning B-Lovee. I actually heard “Shottas,” in an Instagram clip with 3 girls getting sturdy in heels and dresses!!! Still impressed by it till this day.

MHPG Sound, Mali Smith, Mathew Ali, & Cash Cobain- Mha

Where are my anime lovers? Does the sample sound familiar? Much respect to the guys for morphing My Hero Academia into a beautiful, yet unorthodox love song over a drill beat. We love the creativity.

Cash Cobain – 7 Days

As mentioned earlier, Cash Cobain is one of the Founding Father’s of R&B Drill beats and sample king coming out of NY. It’s highly debatable when it comes to who started the movement. But we rightfully honor the contributors to the sound and Cash Cobain is one of them. The producer tag speaks for itself!

MHPG Sound, SPACELI & Cash Cobain – Nyc

Another one from the Most Hated Power Group on the East Coast. MHPG Sound has a roster of incredibly dope musical Talent. SPACELI Vietnam, Matthew Ali, Mali Smith, 2219 Lee, jackwiththemack, 98 Keem, and of course Cash Cobain!

I play this one when I’m getting ready for a night out on the town with the girls. Throw your 1s up in the air!

A Boogie wit da Hoodie – Bleed

Boogie is working his way all the way up to the top and claiming his title as one the hottest to come out of the BX. Witnessing his growth and success as a music artist and businessman is admirable to say the least.

Since he stepped on the scene in 2016, A Boogie has managed to evolve with hip-hop’s continuous shift in sound, while still catering to his original core fanbase.

With solo hit after hit and a slew of fire features. Highbridge’s finest “Artist,” doesn’t seem to be slowing down any time soon. Boog just wrapped up his Me vs. Myself tour in the States, selling out every city. He took the tour internationally selling those days out and adding MORE DAYS to the schedule. We hope our boy can squeeze in a vacation soon! Can’t wait to see what’s next for the superstar.

Dee Aura – Soulja Boy

A bit of a classic for Dee. “Soulja Boy,” is a favorite of mine from one of his earlier projects #SELFMADE. Dee’s new album “NY State of Mind,” is out now on all streaming platforms.

BreezyLYN – Bad Bitches

My girl Breez is having one heck of a year with this bop! Breezy mentioned in a recent interview with Black Talk Radio, before the song blew up she manifested that major influencers Jayda Wayda and Arrogant Tae would use it behind their content and once they did the rest was history. Lola Brooke and Kali even wanted a piece of the hit! The Bad Bitches (remix) is going even crazier in the streets.

S/o to Breezy for landing the collab. Takes a Baddie to know what Baddies like!

Stormy Wicked – Tek It (feat. Luvkris)

Stormy wicked back on another list of mines, can you tell she’s one of my faves on the female East Coast drill tip? I actually had the pleasure of interviewing Stormy on my podcast #MOMDONTSMOKE and learned so much more about her start in music, going from an R&B singer to a drill powerhouse, and being a witch! Yes, I said witch – Check it out here.

Fivio Foreign – Trust

Trust is literally an East Coast National Anthem respectfully.

Pop Smoke – Drive the Boat

Honorable mention, another founding father of East Coast Drill. Rest in Peace to Pop. #WooForever
