Comparing his newfound coldness to the snowy season, Day Kyoto ices out his ex in “End of December.” The transparent lyrics are met with a guitar-led lofi beat. Throughout the record, Day Kyoto also maintains a melodic, auto-tune-styled delivery.
“End of December” sees the artist choosing his happiness before anyone else’s. After telling his former partner that he’s better off without their deceit, he adds
“Did you know things change with the weather/It’s so cold outside/When I’m shoveling through your lies/Between you and I, I think I like me better.”
To better put it, Kyoto believes that “The sun shines so bright without you in my life.“
By the second verse, Day Kyoto is considering giving their romance another go. On the other hand, he’s felt more at peace since distancing himself from all the chaos. Long ago, he had a burning desire for this certain someone. But that fire has been extinguished.
Day Kyoto delivers,
“‘Cause my heart was telling me, what should I do next?/Just give me some time I’ll figure out what’s best/You know that I moved on, without you/But I’m feeling great on my own.”
“End of December” teaches all couples to cherish their better half before it’s too late. If not, they may find themselves in the same scenario as Day’s ex.
