Collier Doak – “Cupid”

Collier Doak expresses the depth of his love for a bombshell in his newest single, “Cupid.” The lofi meet EDM offering comes on the heels of Valentine’s Day.

In 4 minutes, Collier Doak lets it be known that she’s the only one who “keeps my feet on solid ground.” Using a smooth cadence, the rapper verbally illustrates what she’s wearing on what seems to be a date night. Collier Doak also unveils how she’s captivated him. Somewhere in the mix, he touches on his greatness. The verse alone gives him ammo to discharge his most hard-hitting one-liners.

He spits, “Step them long legs in the back of this taxi/Lettin’ rain fall on your dress, but it’s backless/Yea the full package educated Latin, and she speaks French backwards/Collier Doak in the background blasting/Bloom like Orlando I’m a star with the magic.”

Collier Doak follows with a desire to get lost in the moonlight with his sweetheart. He compares their connection to the immense love he has for music.

Just a little smooth movement/All your love,” he raps. “Falls on me/And I feel that groove /don’t lose it.”

By the second verse, he motivates listeners to “feel the bass move/let it drown and surround them.” Additionally, Collier Doak predicts his lady’s every move as he drops some charm her way.

In closing, “Cupid” is a perfect record to dedicate to your better half. Read this Q&A about the song and more below:

What is the creative concept behind your song?

The creative concept behind this track was to create a song about falling in love through the way music makes you feel. It constant references the beat or dancing/partying along side the lyrics directed towards falling for the female in this situation. Take the chorus, for example
“All we want, all we need is a little smooth movement
When all your love falls on me, and I feel that groove, don’t lose it”

How does this song differ from your previous work?

This song differs from my previous work because it’s actually designed and intended to be a song people would bump into in a club setting. Most of my other music is designed on a story or a feeling. This is made for a setting so naturally, it has different elements, such as the EDM feeling synths and drums

Favorite one-liner:

I think my favorite lyric right now has to be “Bloom like Orlando I’m a star with the magic” I just love double entendres in lyrics because they will actually make you lose track of the song because your sitting putting the puzzle together. And that’s beautiful.

Is there a visual in store for this record?

There are many visuals in the works rn. Mostly in the form of short-form content, but it’s going to feel like a mini music video, so stay tuned.

What kind of ‘sound’, production-wise, did you have in the back of your mind, prior to entering the studio for this record?

My producer Samuel DeGoes and I went into this song after having a 2-hour conversation about how great the song “Ladders” by Mac Miller is because of its smooth intro into a slick but groovy drop. So without a doubt that had a huge influence.

What do you hope fans take from this song?

I hope fans bump this shit, honestly, it’s a pre-game/party/dance by urself/just say fuck it song from me to you.

What should we expect next?

Early 2023 is going to be crazy for me. I have been making soooooo much music that is all ready for release now so it’s going to be this waterfall of like 5 really new, really unique-sounding songs, all within a couple of months of each other. Starting with the song “time will tell” after “Cupid”. My band ‘Madeye Moody’ is finishing up our first project right now, so also stay tuned for that to all my alt/rock people.
