Aries Kae is back with the groovy and soulful ‘Phases’, featuring NOLA rapper $leazy EZ.
Aries Kae is a singer, rapper, songwriter, and creative making waves on the west coast. We were first introduced to Aries Kae through her beautiful vocal feature on AJ Causey’s ‘2 Sides of the Lake’ last year, and have since become obsessed with her unique sound, following coverage of her feel-good tune and music video, ‘Happy Place’.
For the entirety of her life, the Southern California-based artist has been singing, writing, and playing instruments, putting 100% of her love and intention into everything she creates.
‘Phases’ is no different.
As the first single off her Taurus Moon EP, ‘Phases’ showcases a more vulnerable side of Kae, one that is equipped with just as much self-compassion as ambition.
“Phases is a song I wrote about the phases we go through in life and having the courage to face change”, Kae tells us. Like the waxing and waning ‘Phases’ of the moon, Kae has learned to move through the changes in her life with power and grace, determined to embrace both the darkness and the light as it comes.
“It’s also about the duality between my Aries sun energy that always has me on the go and my Taurus moon energy that doesn’t love change and really just wants to curl up and take a nap
most of the time”, she teases. As a Taurus Moon myself, I can totally relate. ‘Phases’ gave Aries the opportunity to slow down and find balance once again – both spiritually and musically.
This can be heard in Kae’s songwriting. The first verse of ‘Phases’ delivers an ethereal, almost romantic sound. A simple yet groovy snare introduces Aries’ raw, multidimensional vocals as
she begins to tell her story. As the song progresses, her sound transforms.
The delicate vulnerability of Verse 1 leads Aries into a newer phase of acceptance, affirmation, and embrace in the chorus. New Orleans-based rapper $leazy EZ added her own spin on the track by penning the edgy second verse, bringing the song to another level.
Aries Kae draws musical inspiration from a vast array of eclectic artists, including Erykah Badu, Stevie Nicks, Mariah Carey, Lauryn Hill, Notorious B.I.G., and Outkast. Combining elements from genres like R&B, pop, and hip-hop, complete with jazz/neo-soul influenced production, Kae
delivers a fresh and diverse discography.
Kae collaborated on this track with the legendary Bassy Bob Brockmann (@bassybob), a Grammy Award winning producer and mixer who has worked on classic records like Mary J. Blige’s ‘What’s the 411′, Notorious B.I.G.’s ‘Ready to Die’, The Fugees’ ‘The Score’, and many more. Brockmann took care of the vocal production, mixing, and mastering.
Kae expresses how honored she felt to work on this release with Brockmann, as his influence elevates her talent in an impressive way. Listening to ‘Phases’, I found myself drawing parallels between Kae’s sweet, soulful vocals and EZ’s hip-hop lyricism to the records of iconic artists like Lauryn Hill. Producer and engineer Dom Vee (@dom_V_) also helped work on ‘Phases’. It was his idea to do a song in 3/4 time and, according to Kae, Dom “always brings magic to everything we create.”
Stream ‘Phases’ now on all streaming platforms. Be sure to follow @aries.kae on all social media platforms to find out what she’ll be up to next. Also, keep an eye out for her next single, ‘Honey’, dropping 5/27 on all streaming platforms.

What’s the main thing you want fans to take away?
Aries Kae “As the first single off the Taurus Moon EP, I want people to see a different side of me in Phases. Sunshine showed one part of my personality but Taurus Moon is a much more intimate project. I also want people to feel inspired to flow through the changes and phases of their life with more ease and compassion for themselves.”
