Acesdemise Samples A Classic On Drill Record “American Boy”

With its eclectic beat selection, use of separation, and creative sampling, up and coming artist Acedemise really took a unique approach to making “American Boy”. The instrumental, made famous by UK artist Estelle and global icon Kanye West, is something we see a lot in the drill movement in the last couple of years. Artists are remixing old 90s hits, sometimes even old nursery rhymes, and rapping over it drill style. This is a very creative way to catch a listener’s attention and give them a feeling of nostalgia.

Keeping things authentic, I personally love how Acedemise used the original hook from American Boy as the chorus for the track. The flow and feel of the song reminded me of an up-tempo K Supreme, an artist you might know for his association with Lil Yachty and the Sailing Team around 2017-2018. Something that K Supreme did well with his music that I recommend for Acedemise is to make a creative visual for every song that he puts out. If he is able to find a visual artist that fits his aesthetic well (Quiko or Max Novak for example), he can really capitalize on that relationship and build his brand even more.

Acesdemise used a range of different sounds to create a comprehensive energetic drill track that I really enjoyed. The flow reminded me of a song that K Supreme released called Hot Ham with Lil Yachty and Chief Keef. Take a listen and tell me if you agree.

I would like to see Acedemise collaborate with other artists who can match his energy while also expanding his network. If pushed correctly, “American Boy” can definitely create some buzz in the drill scene and beyond.
