Welcome to NewFire Music. To kick things off, Can you tell our readers about what really inspired you to write music?

Kimberly Korn: My parents introduced me to Carol King, Alanis Morisette, Cyndi Lauper, Prince and Stevie Nicks at a young age. There was always music playing in my house whether it was my dad playing the piano or my mom blasting Led Zeppelin. It made me feel and I loved it!

When did you realize you were going to make music professionally?

Kimberly Korn: When I was a kid watching MTV I knew that was what I wanted to do. I wrote my first song in 5th grade and haven’t stopped.

Tell us what is so unique about you and your music?

Kimberly Korn: I write about overcoming life’s struggles but my music is all danceable. Some heavy subjects but I show it doesn’t have to weigh you down. You can deal with life on life’s terms and celebrate the beauty that comes along with the pain.

Can you share a story about the funniest mistake you made when you were first starting? Can you tell us what lesson you learned from that?

Kimberly Korn: I once paid upfront for a demo before even meeting the producer. When I went to his studio to record there was no studio! It was an empty office and I was scammed. Do your research! Get credentials! Do not pay everything upfront!

Can you tell us about your latest releases and what inspired you to create them?

Kimberly Korn: I have an EP out on all streaming platforms and they are all about different struggles we as humans face. Breakups, rejections, self esteem issues….the world can be cruel and we need to lean on others when times are tough. It’s also really important to focus on your mental health!

Can you give us a brief insight about your upcoming projects?

Kimberly Korn: I’m currently writing for film/TV, writing for other artists and always working on my own songs for my band

What do you wish you were told when you first started making music that you think would help artists just starting out?

Kimberly Korn: Get the business aspects out of the way in the beginning. Discuss splits with your collaborators, register the music with your PRO and get all contracts signed.

Which tips would you recommend to your colleagues in your industry to help them to thrive and not “burn out”?

Kimberly Korn: Take breaks! Do things outside of music. Find hobbies that are fun and clear your mind. It will only improve your art!

What do you do when you don’t do music (creative or otherwise) and that you are passionate about?

Kimberly Korn: I love to read and set a goal to read a book a week last year. I did it! I love to do ballet, tap and hip hop. I love TV and film. Documentaries, reality TV and dramas are my favorite! I also love being in nature with animals. Being on a farm is heaven for me!

Any last piece of advice for those artists who just started making music?

Kimberly Korn: It’s a long game. Most of the overnight successes you think you see have been preparing all their lives. Keep going and chase your dreams!
