Kiey is a single songwriter, producer, and Based in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. Kiey takes inspiration from artists such as Lana Del Rey, Britney Spears, Utada Hikaru, Bjork, Troye Sivan, etc. Together, they helped shape Kiey’s own soundscape: a marriage between the melancholic melodies and the heavy beats of the dance floor.
Following up on his dark-colored debut album in 2019 “Night To Myself”, Kiey continued to make a brighter counterpart to it in 2020-2021. That process resulted in this bright, cinematic, and uplifting record containing 12 tracks of electro-pop galore. The ethereal single of the same name “Sunday Sanctuary” taken from the album was first released on July 9th, 2021, and had since amassed more than 1 million streams on all platforms.
Discussing the EP’s title track, Kiey shares: “Sunday Sanctuary at its core is about the serenity and happiness of spending time with loved ones on a Sunday. The lyrical content describes the feeling of exhaustion after a busy week of work and the joy of spending the whole of Sunday with someone: be it a lover or a family member doing various mundane activities (taking walks, shopping, drinking coffee, etc). It’s also one of my personal favorites on the album!”
“Right When The Sun Rises” is the definitive opener of the album. Married between the mesmerizing slow verses and the euphoric club-banger beat of the chorus, the song is about a break-up of an ambiguous relationship right on the cusp of sunrise and the feeling of relief and clarity one feels.
One of Kiey’s personal favorites; a euphoric, lush-sounding song that relentlessly repeats until it puts the brain into a meditative and relaxing state of mind. The message of this track is a complicated one: On one hand, it beckons for serenity and calmness; on the other, it was written during the dark times of Covid where many known acquaintances of Kiey sadly passed away, thus, the song is tinged with the perspective of death, mourning, and acceptance.
A watery, fun, and ear-catchy record with some Jazzy influences, this song represents the more fun, sexy and party-ready second half of the album. A fun trivia: This track was never intended to be on the album originally! Kiey wrote this song with pop stars such as Britney Spears or Ariana Grande in mind.
This song contains a rather personal narrative from Kiey. Kiey sings passionately about staying true to the path that makes you happiest and committing to see it through to the end no matter the difficulties ahead. Lyrically it was the quickest song for Kiey to complete (about two hours in total)!
Kiey works around Dance-pop, Dream pop, Electropop, Indie pop, and synth-pop.
