Imam T.H.U.G – ‘Immortal Legend’ (Review)

Dominating the scene with constructive lyrics and poise, Imam T.H.U.G takes music aficionados back to when hip-hop truly thrived with Immortal Legend. 

Effortlessly “spitting flames through your speakers,” as mentioned in “Check It Yo Yoo Yooo!” the rhyming master puts strong efforts into moving the nation toward a positive change. The sonically nostalgic 15-track album takes admiration from hip-hop’s golden era. In like manner, Immortal Legend’s themes center on gratitude while reflecting on trying times. 

As Imam T.H.U.G pinpoints the power of taking the good with the bad, he also pushes others to amplify their voice when needed. But rather, he spreads the message of having more love than hate. Songs like “King Code” demands society to do better as a whole. If everyone stuck together, the world would be a better place. 

Confident in his lyrical depth, Imam T.H.U.G also showcases the true essence of a real MC. From smooth transitions to hard-hitting punchlines, he drops a myriad of wisdom and intellect. “Gotta Get Mine” not only highlights Imam’s way with words but also his perseverance. Nothing is getting in the way of greatness!

One notable song is the aforementioned record, “Check It Yo Yoo Yooo!” The production samples Imam T.H.U.G’s hit single “True Confessions (feat. Tragedy Khadafi). 

Featuring V12 THE BLAQ SINATRA, “Check It Yo Yoo Yooo!” finds Imam T.H.U.G speaking on his excellence. Afterward, the rapper warns naysayers never to cross him. If so, “that *** is gone,” he spits. “Never take a man’s kindness for his weakness/Peeped it/Rocked him then I threw him in a sleeper.” 

As the song continues, Imam T.H.U.G tells listeners how to brush their shoulders off when encountering an unwarranted scruffle. This advice is followed by Imam declaring that he’s got “lyrical morphine flows for you to cop.” V12 THE BLAQ SINATRA sings about their accolades and unbreakable spirit in a soulful range. Describing their can-do attitude toward obstacles life throws at them, he delivers his verse in a Luther Vandross fashion:

“We on our grind like all the time/That’s why we always winning,” and “We got that work/We got that heat/We keep that fire/And when we drop this hit/Only gonna take you higher.” 

In the second verse, Imam elaborates on his defense tactics toward ill-speaking menaces. 

“Use your face as a coaster/Early morning closing deals/Sippin’ on mimosas/If you don’t like us, we don’t like you either/F*ck around if you want with that Q B Ether.” 

Putting opps in their rightful place, he educates them on his legacy. Before letting V12 THE BLAQ SINATRA sing his piece, Imam T.H.U.G lets it be known that it’s “Queensbridge forever.” The rapper intends to stay true to his roots.

Imam T.H.U.G was raised in the Queensbridge housing projects that claim infamous hip-hop artists MC Shan, Nas, Mobb Deep, and Capone of Capone n Noreaga (CNN).
