EXCLUSIVE LOOK INTO ‘VAMPIRE’

Rhode Island-bred Lainey Dionne is an indie pop singer/songwriter from a small town you’ve probably never heard of. A millennial musician that writes “the sort of music that immediately makes you forget that you left a burning oven on” (Verge), her songs paint a picture of the playlist you steal from your trendy friend. Lainey’s 12 song album “Self Titled” is a roller coaster ride of raw, honest emotions that come with toxic and healthy relationships.

Thank you for taking this interview! While your fans and new fans stream your music and read this interview, tell us the first thing that comes to mind that you’re grateful for about your music career!
First thing that comes to mind is that I’m really grateful to be able to do what I love to do full time and there’s only one reason for that: the people in my life. I have amazing parents, I had really great school teachers, and have friends that have helped me believe in myself so much so that I get to put my everything into what I do without looking back. My fifth grade teacher had this saying that she would instill in the class: “Reach for the moon and you’ll land among the stars”- I never forgot that. My parents got me into music lessons at a young age and supported my dreams of going to Berklee College of Music. My friends stream my music and come out to my shows. I couldn’t be luckier for the support system I have that allows me to keep going.
What kind of inspiration influences your music that fans would be surprised by?

I don’t think it’s any surprise that 98% of my music is about ex boyfriends. Sorry! I’d say 98% of my relationships have sucked too, just kidding – maybe like 70% – but the good and the bad makes for good songwriting fuel.
Who has influenced you in your career?

Growing up I wanted to be Avril Lavigne or Hayley Williams from Paramore. When I got into Berklee I wanted to be like The Lumineers or Ingrid Michaelson. After college, I just wanted to be me.
Who is your biggest cheerleader in the industry? Why?

John Shae from 95.9 WATD has helped me out so much from radio to live shows to networking. I did my first on air radio interview with him out of Boston and we instantly knew we were going to be good friends! Since then he’s had me back on for the first ever Album Release Show which was a 2 hour radio show where I talked about each song! I’ll be back on Boston airwaves very soon with John! You can listen to our previous interviews here.
Who gives you the most critique? Why?

Probably my mom; aren’t all moms a little critical haha? She’s very particular about what she likes with my music but I know no matter what I put out she is proud of me!

Do you often follow your heart or your brain when you have to make decisions in your career?

Both. I feel like my heart and brain are usually in sync. If it ever came down to something that was financially a good idea, but didn’t match who I am integrity wise, I’d always go with my heart and integrity though.
Making decisions on how to go about your next project, what do those conversations sound like?

Honestly I don’t talk to anyone about it, I just wing it and do whatever I feel pulled to do. I’ve been on a super creative streak lately so once a song is written, it goes into production and is released instantly. I have a very strong and clear idea of what I want most of the time and as an independent artist, I get to make all of my decisions which has been super cool so far!
Give us a fun fact about your latest music!

I have a couple of tracks about foreign flings that I’ve had with Europeans that I met online and flew out to Europe to date!
Best advice you’ve received on making new music?

Breathe.

Give us some advice when it comes to pushing forward in your career?

Also breathe. If it’s not done in time, it’s okay. If you forget the words on stage, it’s okay. If you get in a slump and need a break, it’s okay. If you want to change your sound, it’s okay. If you think you’re not enough, breathe, you are, and it’s okay.
