Santana Airo is a talented West Coast-based artist/producer currently in the third year of his young music career. As a member of the Oakland, California Hip-Hop collective known as Nuuseason, Santana has been honing in on his skills while trading verses with fellow group member Shua. It looks like Santana Airo is taking the next step in his career, dropping his first two solo singles on streaming platforms just last month. Today we’ll be highlighting Gallerias, a fast-paced single where Santana Airo’s memorable flows and attention grabbing delivery shines.
The first thing you notice when this song comes on is the instrumental co-produced by Santana Airo and Calmdownjxmxl. From the jump, this song feels like a parade is coming through your city with a thirty person orchestra. The brass instruments set the stage with a nice eight bar loop. The horns on this beat work very well, just as they did on Jack Harlow’s Nail Tech, and you immediately anticipate Santana’s voice. It’s not long before Airo begins the hook, starting with “for that money Imma chase it”. It’s clear that the Oakland artist is ready to make a stamp and speak positivity in to his life. Ironically recorded on New Years Eve, Gallerias feels like a celebration of the wins Santana Airo knows are coming.
You must know the old me, I ain’t moving backwards.”
This entire track feels like a high speed car chase and I think that was intentional. Airo even starts one of his verses with “brought the speed up/on the freeway.” This song is all about staying in motion. Not only does Santana Airo speak about physically moving on from the past and the “brand new chapter” that has just begun, his bouncy cadence on this track keeps the listener waiting for the next line, and the next, always looking forward to what he is going to say. During his verses, Santana Airo added a voice inflection that coincides with the hit of every snare. That cadence style added a rhythm to this track that you have to hear to really understand. Once you establish that kind of feeling, it doesn’t really matter what you’re saying. Nonetheless, Airo was still talking heavy on this one.
Airo brings the listener in to his mindset and thought process through his lyricism. “Look who’s still around and the ones who didn’t fake.” It feels like Santana is back from a hiatus and telling us exactly what he’s seeing around him. No malice, just observation. He talks about keeping people in his circle that may have not be the best for him, thoughts of dark days that he’s leaving in the past, and expressing his daily emotions through music. His candid and relatable writing style will make you feel like you’re already cool with Santana as a person. Continuing his verses, Airo raps on about his new found confidence and comfort with himself. Now it’s about releasing the best art and getting to the bag as fast as possible (“f*ck a delay”).
Resilient and poised for success, Gallerias is definitely Santana Airo’s coming out party. He showcased a lot of talent on this track and it’s pretty clear that there is something unique about this Oakland artist. This is also the first release that he’s produced. With a natural ear for production, Santana has an understanding of how he can use his voice and cadence to find the best pocket on every track. For that reason, his charismatic deliveries will always stand out from his peers. On top of that, Santana Airo seems like a confident but humble person that should garner genuine support from his growing fanbase.
