Lyhz from Toronto, Canada brings us the early 2000s R&B we’ve been missing.
When Lyhz, a super talented singer-songwriter from Toronto, Canada, came to us with her debut single “Enough”, we didn’t really know what to expect. After a few listens to the Pop offering inspired by early 2000s R&B, ironically we couldn’t get enough of the single. Undoubtedly, Lyhz’s lyrics are as real as they come. Lyhz articulates a toxic relationship where she found herself giving “so much” while her partner “never gave enough” in return. While this dynamic of so called love seems familiar to Lyhz, today she’s had enough.
On her debut single “Enough”, Lyhz sings her heart out as her new found boundaries take her away from her lover. The song describes a difficult moment in time where Lyhz felt at her lowest, struggling with self worth and loneliness. After a lot of self reflection, Lyhz was able to bring her vulnerability in to the booth and drop a heartbreak single that we promise you can relate to. Lyhz’ first words immediately resonate with the listener when she sings “how many times do I have to say that I’m tired“. Lyhz’s gentle delivery will make you listen a bit closer to catch every word as her lyrics take on the tone of an argument gone wrong.
Whoever the Canada-born artist is talking about definitely fumbled the bag! We’re happy that Lyhz is on to better things. It is also admirable that such a hard time inspired an amazing piece of art. Lyhz’s debut single “Enough” is available on all platforms now! Keep reading to find out more about the emerging songstress that will soon be on all of the R&B charts.
What does this song mean to you?
Lyhz: The song is freeing yourself from accepting the bare minimum! Oftentimes we are caught up in doing so much for people we know would never, and don’t ever do anything for us time and time again. This year we should all strive to go after what we deserve, and that is people and situations who value our worth. If its anything less stop making excuses for them.
How did the lyrics come together?
Lyhz: The lyrics came together as I was reflecting on a period of time where I felt I was at my lowest. I struggled with loneliness and I think we’re at a time, especially with the pandemic, where we are struggling to see who is there for us. I hope this song serves as motivation. Through BeatStars and Instagram, I connected with the amazing producers who made the song. And it came together from there.
Who are some of your greatest music influences all time?
Lyhz: My greatest influences of all time have to be Brandy, the vocal bible herself, Mariah Carey, who not only has a phenomenal voice but is an incredible lyricist, and Whitney Houston who had so much power and soul in every song. I only hope to influence people the way their music has.
Why should fans follow your journey?
Lyhz: I personally am such a big fan of early 2000s RnB music. That is a vibe I am trying to bring back in today’s modern music era. Creating a sound that is new, fresh and thought provoking in a world where we hear so much of the same music is something I feel fans can admire and look forward to when following my musical journey. I also hope to be able to voice emotions or feelings that people can connect or relate to. Music is so powerful in the way artists can say things that we don’t have the power/words to describe, and I think writing and singing is my way of giving motivation to someone who is going through experiences similar to mine. Finally, I hope to shine a spotlight on the talent that is very much thriving [in Toronto]. We do have incredible talents like Drake, The Weeknd, and Justin Bieber who came from Toronto. But there are so many other artists, like myself, who are contributing to the the culture of the city that can be celebrated beyond Toronto.
