Cya2mrw, a multi-talented alternative hip-hop trio based out of the east coast, just released a new single and music video called “Wanna Be Ella”.
As the bright beat of Cya2mrw’s “Wanna Be Ella” crescendos, melodic vocals begin to echo and it’s hard not to start moving when the bassline drops. Aaron Brown, Jack Butera, and Nate Reyes are dynamic storytellers, deriving their musical inspirations from not only life experiences, but the inclination to tell interesting stories through their music.
“WBE is the story of lovers drifting apart. The main character’s love interest has gotten a taste of the ‘LA party girl’ lifestyle and seems to be more enamored with this new world than with her old love life with the main character”, the guys tell me.
“She acknowledges her vast changes in ideologies and accepts this new path she has chosen to embark on. The main character does not agree with her new ideologies/lifestyle and believes that she now needs saving”, they continue.
An upbeat anthem saluting fake love, lyrics that tell the story of a 21st century romance most of us can relate to are carried by a bouncy melody, united in polished production. Their musical expression draws parallels and inspiration from a variety of genres including rap, alternative, trap, and hip-hop, creating a versatile sound that is unique to Cya2mrw.
Ultimately, the song speaks to embracing positivity, and the high that comes along with finding yourself on the other side of a dicey LA situationship; “While she needs saving, the main character also acknowledges it is not their responsibility to do so as the main character also respects their decision. Thus, for better or worse, this song is written as a spiteful message to this love interest as they envision the situation as them being cheated on with the LA party scene”, the guys continue.
The trio shot the video for “Wanna Be Ella” on a trip to Malibu over the summer, where the boys were able to really encapsulate the vibe of the song. “We ended up shooting 6 videos and this one was one of our favorites so we rolled it out”, they continue. The video has already racked up 12k views, making WBE the group’s most viewed video. In addition, since its release, Cya2mrw was picked up by Promoting Sounds on YouTube, where the single has reached 66K streams and counting!
Cya2mrw’s listener base is quickly growing not only in the east coast rap game, but among fans of rock, hip-hop, trap, alternative, and pop who are also taking notice of their unique sound.
