All Things Creative with Bennett

Hello! Thanks for chatting with me today!
My pleasure. Thanks for having me!

What have you been working on lately? Any fun projects coming up?
So I recently released part 1 of my EP called “Love Letters” this past July and the success of that has been amazing. Part 2 is due to come out closer towards the end of the year. It’s going to feature some amazing artists including my friend Jax who does a great song with me about being transgender. Jax and I are both transgender males and feel it’s important to put something out for our community, so that will be coming in Part 2. I’m gearing up to start the planning of a music video as well. “Right Back To You” featuring my boy YRU VEXxD is my current single and that is doing so well on Spotify so I’m thinking a video for that might need to come to fruition. So that’s what I got going on right now.

What inspires the music you write?
Love. I’m a hopeless romantic and the girl I love always inspires me to write. I think experiences in love also play a huge part in what I write about. I think being in love, in general, is motivating. When you have someone you love, you want to be the best version of yourself for them. I know for me personally, I wouldn’t have half of what I have if it wasn’t for that special someone pushing me to my full potential, and for that, I will always find words to write about. Love stories are never-ending and everyone can relate. Whether you’ve been in love or not, everyone knows love. It’s a universal language that speaks to the masses. If I’m able to put into words what I feel for her, then that’s all the inspiration I need.

What draws you to the genre of music you create?
Here’s the thing with my music, I don’t put myself in a genre box. I try to create music throughout multiple genres, Pop, R&B, and Hip Hop. Those are my 3 favorite genres so that’s why I try to combine those together. I had a moment one day where I really wanted to make a Hip Hop song, but I was primarily a Pop artist. I finally was like why not do all three? So I did, and now I’m making the best music I’ve ever made. But what draws me to each genre is the mood I’m in. I try to make music depending on the mood I’m feeling and that typically determines the genre I’m going to be doing that day. That’s the pleasure in making music, I can literally make whatever style I want. That’s what draws me to it.

What has been one of the biggest challenges in music that you have overcome?

I have a few, but I think the main one would be being transgender. I hid who I was for a very long time which led to years of disappointment and self gate and that was starting to come through in my music, which I didn’t want. I transitioned in 2017 but didn’t come out to my audience till 2021. After I did that, I felt free, and honestly, I received nothing but love from my supporters and fans. So overall I’d say that was my biggest challenge.

Do you ever get nervous before releasing new music? If so, how do you work through that?
I do and I don’t get nervous. I’m so excited to release new music. I also spend so much time perfecting it that I don’t release anything unless I feel it’s perfect. But what I do get nervous about is that I hope people like it. I’ve spent so many years working on this and having a good fanbase now, I can finally listen to what the fans want and go based on that, which then doesn’t leave from for nervousness because I’m releasing something the people have asked for. I get through my nerves with prayer and turning to God. Putting my faith in Him releases those nerves too.
What is your favorite part of releasing new music into the world?
Getting it to the people and hearing the feedback, whether it is good or bad. I love constructive criticism because I thrive off of it. We don’t get better at our craft if we don’t listen to feedback, and then apply it. So I always look forward to that because it adds to my growth as an artist. Reaching new fans is always exciting when it comes to new music as well because you don’t know what will impact people. That’s always special to me too, and a favorite part of releasing new music.

What are some songs or artists you have been enjoying lately?
I’ve been enjoying a lot of Ariana Grande lately. Her voice is so captivating and literally gives me chills. I also have been listening to a lot of Reggaeton lately too. I love the Spanish language and when its music, I love it even more. J. Balvin, Becky G, Mau y Ricky, and Lali have been on repeat lately. That has also been inspirational in terms of my own music too with my track Right Back To You.
