Hi Bennett! Thank you for being here to chat today!
Thanks so much for having me!
You are releasing a song Friday! Congrats! Will you tell us a bit about it?
Thank you very much! So I’m releasing a new song called “Boy into a King”. I wrote about this about really being at rock bottom and suddenly you have someone who makes you find your potential as well as reach it. It originated as a love song, but I think it can really pertain to any sort of relationship. It describes me as this boy who eventually found his power and became the king of his empire. It’s based on my downfall to my uprising. I think it’s some of my best work, to be honest. I really worked hard to get my vocals on point and the overall mixing/mastering I really took my time to get perfect. It’s a nice r&b track that I think will resonate with a lot of people who are going through the same type of growth while having someone special by their side.
Who has been your biggest cheerleader in your career?
My biggest cheerleader would be my best friend Hazel. She has pushed me to be the best version of myself. A few years ago I was really struggling in life and although I was making music, I wasn’t at all reaching my full potential. I had very minimal drive to really take my career seriously because I was struggling with my mental health. Then Hazel came into my life and she saw something in me I had yet to discover myself. Through a lot of talking and rooting for me, I finally saw what she had seen in me all along. Ever since then, my life hasn’t just changed for the better, but I wake up every day grateful that I have someone as wonderful and tenacious as she is in my life. I feel motivated every day to push myself with my music because of her.
If you had to sum up your music in three words, what would they be?
I would say uplifting, warmhearted, and boundless.
Is there an overall theme that you are trying to capture when creating new music?
Yeah, I definitely feel like the overall theme is love and loving life. I’ve had so much negativity in life that I want to spread positivity where ever I can and I believe you can feel the love through my music. So overall I’d say love and positivity come through everywhere in my new music, which is the goal for me. Especially with the world we are all currently living in, if I can make someone feel loved, I’ve achieved my goal.
How do you keep peace and balance in an often hectic world?
I stay focused on my goals and I try not to let the outside world, which is quite hectic at the moment, influence my decisions. That definitely helps keep the peace within me. The world is changing at a rapid rate and we are all changing alongside that, so if I can just keep my eye on the prize and the task at hand, it really helps to keep me balanced too. I know what I want in life and having gone through so much at an early age, I leave no room for distractions that could throw me off course. It is difficult at times to stay in that mindset, but I know the alternative reality I could be living, and that struggle isn’t worth losing sight of what I’m trying to do. That’s how I keep peace and balance.
When do you feel most creative?
I feel most creative when I just dive into my work. I have songs come to me in my dreams. I have a song coming out in May that I had a dream about the music video before I even had a song. I woke up and made a song about how I felt fit the music video. Then I shot the video, which was almost precise to the dream I had. But when I just hop on the computer and I make a melody, the creativity seems to come really quickly and I end up making something I didn’t expect to. Those are my favorite moments of the creating process because I feel the most creative.
Do you have any upcoming projects coming up that you are looking forward to?
Absolutely! So besides “Boy into a King”, which is out now, I had mentioned my new song and video that came to me in a dream. It’s called “Lightning” and I don’t think I’ve ever been so proud of my music. The song comes out May 14th and the music video drops May 21st. It’s a fun uptempo pop/r&b song and I think people are not going to only love the song, but the video itself is really cool. I shot it, designed the set, and edited it myself as well. I’m really happy with it and I think people are going to enjoy it. There are multiple layers of harmonies, which is my favorite thing to do and I haven’t done much of that In my music. I always wanted to implement that into my songs so I’m really looking forward to people hearing the song and seeing the visual for it too.
