The singer/songwriter/rapper describes Junification as her ‘butterfly phase’, with a universal sound for everyone to enjoy despite gender or age. If you’re a new fan, or a follower of June already, see what she had to say about this current stage in her career.

Junification was your first album release in almost a year. How did it feel to finally drop?

The first thing we wanted to know was how it felt to finally drop music in almost a year. Artists often sit with songs for awhile with great anticipation of how the fans will react, so we had to ask June how it felt to release her masterpieces. She immediately differentiate ‘Junification’ from her other projects and says ‘this one felt right this time.’ From the mission, flow, and pre-planning, this seems to be the album she’s most proud of thus far.

What was your favorite part about the recording process?

When asked about the recording process, June speaks to complete freedom and creative control to take her songs wherever she wanted. Given that power, she says this is the one project that feels like a true reflection of her artistry. Hit play above to hear her complete answer.

How does this body of work compare to your other projects ‘Rockstar Barbie’ and ‘June Did It’?

Briefly touching on this topic in the first question, June goes into more detail comparing her first releases, Rockstar Barbie and June Did It, to Junification. She confidently expresses that ‘Rockstar Barbie’ was an era, an important transitional period from starting as a new artist to letting people know she’s serious. She goes on to describe Junification as the blossoming next step from June Did It.

Do you have a favorite song on the project?

June lets us know her favorite song on the project is ‘Greater‘, mainly because of the message. She highlights the fact that many listeners aren’t really paying attention to the lyrics in music anymore, but clearly June takes her songwriting seriously (so listen up!).

Tell us about the new music video for ‘Sure Thing’?

Apparently, the ‘Sure Thing’ video was shot on a cold (very, very cold) winter day by @kargbofilms, notoriously a sports videographer prior to his dealings with June. We thought it was pretty interesting that June was one of the first artists that Kargbo Films reached out to, coming to her with a full treatment for the video and making the whole process as smooth as possible. It definitely shows in the final product. Check out the video below.

Can fans expect anymore music videos for Junification?

Yes, the answer is yes. We’ll let June tell her music video plans for the rest of 2021. Hit the play button above! One thing we will highlight; June is eager to showcase her softer, more intimate side in addition to the Rockstar Barbie lifestyle.

How would you describe your sound to a new fan?

‘My sound is universal’. That’s really all you need to know. June does not want to put herself in an R&B, trap, or hip-hop box because she is capable of doing it all! Black or white, old or young, male or female, June has something for you.

2020 and now 2021 has been crazy for everyone. What’s something you learned about yourself during the past year?

The past year has cut us off from much of the outside world. During that time, June learned that she really doesn’t need anybody but herself. While she admits that she may have been dependent on other people’s approval in the past, she realized that the ‘recipe’ has been herself the entire time.

What’s something most people don’t know about you that you wish they did?
